Ernie - I know you are cute and clever and don't feel a need to contribute - do you have a list handy of little sayings to toss out on any subject? You know - many questions are legitimate and don't really call for a finger pointing remark from you.
I have a good number of 'hobbies' that are interesting and productive - and you know that. Is this message board your only hobby?
SO - back to my original question - are we at risk for sink holes like this as we deplete the aquifer and carry heavier and heavier loads on the land?

Ernie - I'm wondering if you own property here, and if so, is your property being impacted by what is going on with the cart path takeover? If so, I'd love some productive input, and if not, I don't know why you feel the need to post insults on the topic.

Harriette, I think the risk of sink holes comes from the fact that there are numerous caves under the island. If I remember correctly, that huge sinkhole just north of your place was created when we had that earthquake back a few years ago. The earthquake caused one of those caves to collapse forming a sinkhole. At least that was the speculation back then.

I can't understand why so many seem to be upset about the road being opened. There have been numerous complaints for many years about vehicles using the beach and upsetting both residents and visitors. When the road is opened all the traffic including Motorcycles will use the road with heavy penalties for those who drive on the beach. All the easements to the beach will be opened but post will be put up to stop any vehicles accessing the beach, also this will allow the removal of all barriers that people have placed on the beach to be removed allowing free access to the beach for all. There also will be culverts and speed bumps installed to slow down the traffic as well as a team of workers to clean the area. I am sure the majority of the residents and businesses will appreciate the road once it is finished.

Thanks Tracker. Yes we always try to resist progress and development but sometimes it is for the best. Getting traffic off the beach is a good thing. Improving the road access north is good. The next step will be street lighting which is essential for health and safety.
