Street lighting would be a very good thing if placed properly. If you are traveling o the road at night it can be scary and of course safety is always a concern.

Can anyone say how many incidents (threats or attacks) have taken place on the beach or cart path from the bridge north over the last five years?

Ambergris Caye in underlain by Pleistocene limestone just like most of Florida. The limestone is the remnants of reef that was deposited when sea level was much higher than today. During the last glaciation (ended about 15,000 years ago)sea level was much lower than today (all the water went to making ice in Canada). Rainfall at that time percolated thru the limestone to make significant caves (including the Blue hole). When the glaciation ended and sea level rose, the caves were flooded. When a cave roof collapses it creates a sinkhole. Earthquakes help with the collapse process. The whole process is very common whereever you have limestone, rain and construction. Places like Florida have geophysical surveys which will tell you if you have potential problems before you build. If you go to google earth on the mainland, sinkholes are black dots of water about 50-100m wide.

Hope this helps

Quite a few. At least one ended in the robber being killed by a hunter. Apparently a resident/tenant said he was assailed just about a week ago. Most of the incidents go unreported.

This why a lot of the new owners "up north" like to have ATV's so they can swiftly move through the dark roadways.
Maybe the NACNW has some records to give concrete figures.

We have some friends coming down on Sunday for the first time. Anyone know the status of the road north. They want to drive up to Coco Beach and Mata Grande area.

Still some potholes before and after Captain Morgan's but easily passable since it's dry. Should be no problema.
