As interesting as the shots are great. I'd love to see an example of a straight out of the camera shot versus the finished processed shot. The post shot editing is as much as an art form as the shot.

Phil,
I will see what I can do for examples. My "straight out of the camera" files are CR2 RAW format that require conversion to JPEG for display on this site. JPEG files require some processing to "bring back" some of the information lost in the file compression.

It was just out of interest. If it's a big issue no big deal, I was just interested in a comparison. I can see it's a compromise already. Your eye is exceptional. Things I see and pass every day that you make really jump out.

I am up for the challenge. Will warm-up the computer tonight with a cold beer in hand and create some examples.

Island Garden, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize - December 2010

Right in the heart of town. I liked the exotic combination of colours and exposed the image to bring some detail to the shadows. Image was captured on an overcast day in the shade of the building right across the street from the RC school.

Thanks AJ! Appreciated the lesson. But I remain firm in my belief that you are the artist. Just for starters, how many of the rest of us go back the next day to catch the same light? smile

One of the major challenges with photography in the tropics is the strength of the sun and the high contrast light it produces. Usually I am up before sunrise and stop shooting by mid-morning. Sometimes I return to the same spot on consecutive days or just wait until everything lines up. Drives my wife nuts...

I have always said, 'The camera merely captures the light. The photographer must see the light.' You, AJ, definitely see the light!
