You have to be careful with these policies (well all policies) and make sure they are not predicated on your living in the US rather living outside the US. Some of them won't pay if you are living somewhere other than the US. This is such an important issue for those living outside the US and deserves a lot of attention as the consequences of a bad decision can be devastating. People don't realize that a air medevac will have to be paid in advance if you don't have insurance and that usually starts at around $10,000 and can go as high as $100, 000 or more depending on exactly where you are. And I mean paid in full before you get on the aircraft. No exceptions.

I'm fortunate that I retired from a medical facility that has an HMO for employees. They pay my Medicare deductible and the rest is free to me. I have total medical and dental coverage and full coverage on all prescriptions. I usually go back once a year to visit friends and family and take care of my routine medical - or scheduled surgery (knee - hip). Next will be cataracts

My wonderful doctor here on the island charges $30 BZ for an office visit and I always get to be seen the day I call. In the US the appointments were three months out. So far I've only had to be seen here twice in one year.

This year I had pneumonia and she treated me in her office and including take home drugs it was less than $200 US. This is so reasonable that I don't bother sending a claim to the HMO.

It's hell to get old, whats with the idiom, "the golden years" anyway? Unless it's about spending all your money for healthcare?

San Pedro to Miami - 1 nurse and 1 other tech with no altitude restriction $8-$12K. Sucking chest wound or Intensive care $15 to $20K. Also, fuel prices have a big impact and the kind of equipment used (Lear, Pressurized King Air).

If back to New York/Chicago/Minneapolis add another $5 to $8K.

Someone that is really, really sick that requires basically an intensive care environment increase by another 20% or so.

Hang on Capt - maybe I'm missing your Point here. Initially did you say the best way to go was have a high deductible that includes MediVac. ?

I meant a high deductible medical insurance plan and separate coverage for medevac. If you get the medevac as part of your insurance plan then you can have problems with the deductibles as you apparently are concerned about. I would NOT buy the medical insurance from the same people that I buy the medevac coverage from for several reasons.

Hope that is clear.
