Wow Elly - Bakersfield huh?? Our very good friends (who we have done a lot of traveling with) live in Bear Valley - near Tehachapi. He's a firefighter with Kern County and sometimes is stationed in Bakersfield. I think they are wishing they were coming with us on this trip. I have a feeling we will be planning a trip to Belize with them in the near future. And I'm sure you'll be able to withstand the heat down there. It might even be a bit cooler than home. ![[Linked Image]](//ambergriscaye.com/message/wink.gif) Keep in touch and we will for sure see you in AC. Let us know where you decide to stay. Here's my email address to make things easier just in case I miss some of the posts here. seajay51@yahoo.com

Elly, Are you going to be staying on the Caye the whole time or heading inland at all. I'm thinking of leaving around the 29th but not sure if I'm going to spend a week around San Ignacio on the first half or second half of my trip. I also thought Rubies looked like a good place to stay but was also looking at Caye Culker. Let's stay in touch and plan on meeting up at some point.. brown_lauria@hotmail.com

From your description of your needs, I would choose Ruby's or Lili's. Not sure what the Holiday Hotel prices are like, but you might check them out.
I THINK the Hideaway is not on the beach. If I am wrong about that, sorry.
Good luck. You will have a great time.
IMHO, Caulker, though a nice place, was nearly devoid of humans when we visited there 2 weeks ago.

I for one would choose the Holiday Hotel... They are in the center of town, have great rooms, and a great view... Have a great deli, and bar, and a good resturant!!!! And you can not forget the Beach BBQ on Wed... We have stayed at 4 different places there on the island, but will always stay at the Holiday, until our house is done!!!! Ask for Kim, she'll take care of ya all.... Thanks, Rick

Elly.
I would not worry about traveling by yourself. I do solo trips a lot, and have always met people. I am somewhat reserved, but on vacation I go and meet people all of the time.
You will have a GREAT time!!

Thanks to all who helped out with my lodging choice. I decided on Rubies simply because of the location and price. I checked out the others recommended, but most were twice as much per night. I want to spend most of my money having a good time, so would rather cut corners on the lodging. Looks like I will be arriving on the 26th (booked the ticket this morning, so there's no going back now!),which seems to be a time a few others are coming? I know it is much cheaper to fy into municipal and catch the transfer from there, but this is not possible from Lax. Should I make reservations for the puddle jumper, or is it true I should not have any problems getting a seat (I will arrive at 2:40 pm)?

Has anyone ever stayed at, or heard anything about the hotel del rio? Just received an e-mail from them and they are also incredibly inexpensive.

I don't have any first-hand info about Hotel del Rio but I do have their website. You may have already seen it but here it is: //ambergriscaye.com/hoteldelrio/index.html

Elly, stick with your plans. Don't change for Hotel del Rio. I really don't want to say more about it. ![[Linked Image]](//ambergriscaye.com/message/smile.gif) Regardless, of what you decide, you will have a very nice time. I'm a diver and so I can't encourage you enough to finish up your certification. I can't remember just now when you are going down, but if you have the time, I always recommend that people take their classes and pool sessions at home and then if they don't take their open water at home, get the referral and take it on their vacation. I mean, aside from the advantages of taking the hard parts at home, no one really wants to be studying while on vacation, right? I've been to SP with friends as well as on my own, and it is such a great place. Watch out for the land sharks and you will just be fine! I do actually recommend the land sharks for one thing though, and that is . . . you must learn how to punta. It is the dance of life. ![[Linked Image]](//ambergriscaye.com/message/smile.gif)
A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

Thanks for the advice Seashell
I liked your idea about taking the pool/classroom portion here (Give me somthing to do while I wait for my trip!), but I just looked at the schedule of our one and only dive shop and the course is spread over four weeks. It is also almost as much as the entire course there, and that does not include any diving. Do you know how long the classes last each day in AC? I know it will not be much fun studying on my vacation, but I think the end result could lead to both a whole new sport (Right now I really only particpate in winter sports) and great opportunities for travel to beautiful places!
