Sounds like you may be on the AA flight that we will be leaving on from DFW on the 26th !
If so you should probably get advanced reservations on the puddle jumper on Maya Air
so you won't have to wait too long for the next flight to SP.
Glad to hear about your decision to make the trip! You will really enjoy the place.Largest accumulation of friendly folks you will ever meet.

Could you tell me how much time I will need when I arrive and leave for booking purposes? Maya has scheduled flights to/from BZE to San Pedro anywhere from 30 minutes after/prior to AA flight time arrrival/departure, to a few hours.

It doesn't take long to get thru customs at BC. If the carrier to SP knows there are folks on an arriving flight they will usually time thier departures on that arrival. The worst that could happen is that you would have to have a few at "Jet's Bar"
while waiting for the next hop!
The carriers run til dark.

It's too bad about the expense Elly. I did know that it would cost just a bit more to take some at home and then get the referral for your open water in Belize. But I didn't realize that it would be that much more. Are you sure that the price you were quoted for the class and pool sessions was not also including the OW portion?

I don't really know how long the classes are each day but you will have to learn what is in the book as well as your skills. That is why I recommend doing it at home. Taking the classes and pool sessions spread out over a few weeks actually helps you to retain the information longer term than taking the short course.

Whatever you decide to do, have a wonderful time and welcome to a wonderful new recreation that may change your life. It did mine . . . well, that and the punta.

When we did our certification( the entire thing) on AC last year, we would usually spend 2 or 3 hours of the morning in class( a thatched hut) and discuss PADI manual and video, then break for lunch and then practice our skills off of the Ramon's dock or go out to Hol Chan. After our instructor felt like we all knew what we were doing, we would head out to dive in the afternoon and we would work on our skills at the dive site.
We liked it this way. We did study a little bit in the evenings, but it wasn't bad at all. It took us 3 or 4 full days.
