Our 3rd annual (or is it 4th…but who's counting) September Potluck Social is on Sunday, September 7 from 11am to 3pm and is being held at the Caribe Island Clubhouse (Pink Condos). If you're here on the island we hope you will join us for a fun day of mingling with your neighbors and enjoying everyone's culinary talents.
In order to make sure that we have plenty of food and drink we need to know how many to expect and what dish you are bringing (to feed 25 to 30 folks). If you plan to attend and did not fill out the food sign up sheet at the August general meeting, please reply to this email and let us know how many will be in your party and what dish you will bring:

• Meat or Casserole, or
• Vegetable/Salad, or
• Bread, or
• Appetizer, or
• Dessert, or
• Case of Beer

Bob Utsman will be hosting a raffle, so make sure and bring some small bills ($1 or $2) for this event with the proceeds going to SACNW.

Beer and wine will be available, but feel free to bring any additional libations.

Just a reminder that there will not be a September General Meeting.

Please be sure to label your food container with your name so it can be returned to you, and bring a serving spoon if you have one. We have a few that will be available..

If you think you will need it, don't forget bug spray!

See you there!

Hello One and All -

This is the time of year when the island gets quiet and when we traditionally skip the monthly general meeting of the members. As in the past, there will be no general meeting in September - but hold on to your hats . . . .

October 1 we will be holding our annual potluck get together at Caribe Island. You bring a dish, beverages will be available for a small (or generous) donation. Yes, adult beverages! You will get a separate email with details as the date draws near.

Remember - you can make your regular donation from the comfort of your home by clicking this link. It will take you to our online donation shopping cart - which is in Belize dollars.

Enjoy your month of September celebrations where ever you are!

We have two reminders for our neighborhood:

1) Our secretary has stepped down due to increased work obligations. We are seeking someone who has 2-3 hours per week and has good computer skills. If you can volunteer a bit of time - or know someone who would like to do a bit of community involvement, please reply to Peter Nolan: padernolan@gmail.com

2) We are 100% donor funding with an annual operating budget of $150,000 BZ per year. We are at our usual annual low with only one week of operating expense in our bank account. We need your donations! Please click anywhere in the Mission Statement below and donate online or drop a check or credit card payment at Black Orchid Restaurant.

We thank you for your support!

Southern Ambergris Caye Neighbourhood Watch meets to address road and safety concerns

The Southern Ambergris Caye Neighbourhood Watch (SACNW) hosted their general meeting on Wednesday evening, November 9th at the Lone Star Restaurant in Southern Ambergris Caye. Nearly 40 concerned residents, along with members of the San Pedro Police Department, were in attendance to discuss matters affecting the area. The top items on the agenda included safety and the dire conditions of the streets, which is adversely affecting the business community on that side of the island.

President of the SACNW Peter Nolan started the meeting shortly after 7PM, welcoming everyone who made the effort to attend. He immediately touched on the issue of the deplorable road conditions leading to the southern part of the island, and how it is greatly affecting tourism in that area of the island. "Business has been turned away in this area because of the road," said Nolan. "Hotel operators in this area have been forced to reposition their guests to other places." It is also affecting the work force, the residents and even the security personnel, the latter of which are having difficulties traversing the area either for routine patrol or responding to emergencies such as crime.

Nolan indicated that he has been meeting with Mayor Daniel Guerrero regarding the situation and the Mayor has committed to assist. However, they also understand that the weather has caused much delay. Guerrero was scheduled to be at the meeting, but due to other arrangements, he was unable to attend. Guerrero had mentioned in the past that plans to start working on all the affected streets on the island were already in place. Despite his absence, he communicated via phone stating that due the urgency of the situation in southern Ambergris Caye, works would commence at the road on Thursday, November 10th. "We have material on all of the streets affected, and more is coming from the quarry up north to properly fix them," said Guerrero. "As soon as the rain stops we will address this issue, which is affecting everyone." The Mayor stated in a recent interview with The Sun that the material to be used is of good quality, and the streets will last longer.

In regards to safety, Rodney Perdue informed everyone that crime incidents have been on the rise lately. According to his report, there were at least three separate incidents of burglaries in the area, with the latest being on November 4th. This latest incident saw a house with broken windows, which patrol suspects, may have been broken into. Residents are being advised to safeguard their homes well, to check on each other and to let their neighbours know if they leave town.

Newly posted Officer in Charge of the Coastal Easter Executive Unit Henry Jemmott addressed the audience in reference to safety and crime. He committed to continue working and enforcing community policing. "There will be another police booth built in the DFC Area," said Jemmott. "From there patrols will be extending to the south all the way to Mosquito Coast. They will merge along with the current patrols carried out by the neighbourhood watch down here." He reiterated the continued support of the San Pedro Police to the SACNW and also thanked everyone for the excellent working relationship they have been fostering for the past years.

SACNW members were urged to register to train and become special constables. The training is scheduled for December, and new trainees will have more authority to deal with incidents in the area.

The meeting ended with the announcement that talks between the SACNW and the local authorities, including the Area Representative Honourable Manuel Heredia Jr., are to intensify. Members demand that as tax payers, they deserve more attention and they hope to get their concerns properly addressed. In the upcoming week they hope to meet with said authorities, where these demands will be tabled with the hopes of an agreement that will lead to a permanent solution.

Due to the fact that the majority of the Executive Committee and so many of our area residents are not currently on the island, we are cancelling the August 9th General Meeting. We do ask that you give serious thought to new candidates for the EC since it is now time to refresh our governing body. If you are a fulltime resident here, please consider stepping up and volunteering to help guide this very worthwhile organization.

Thank you - we look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. (We will send out a reminder before the September 13th meeting.)

Hello friends and neighbors!

It is time for our regular monthly meeting again. It is being held on October 9th, 7:00 pm at Someplace South Cafebar.

Click here to donate to your 100% donor funded patrol.

The agenda beginning at 7:00 pm

Welcome
Election of officers
Treasurers report
Security report
Old & new business
Open floor

We would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our members that this is the time of year when our coffers are strained. The month of September brings quite a few holidays - which means an increase in our payroll expenses. If you have not made a contribution, please visit our website and do so. And remember....we are the only contributors to SACNW. We do not receive government funding nor any charitable NGO funding. The neighborhood reaches into their own pockets to support this top quality service we receive from our dedicated patrol staff. The organization's overhead is ONLY payroll and the supplies for patrol operations.

See you Wednesday (or see you as an online donor - please click the link!)

Southern Ambergris Caye Neighbourhood Watch General Meeting November 13

It is that time again. Our general meeting will be held Wednesday, November 13 at 7:00 pm Lone Star Grill & Cantina.

Click here to donate to your 100% donor funded patrol.

If you are still "up North" getting ready for your trip down, be sure to leave a little extra packing space. We will be sending out an email of patrol needs and wants very soon.

If you are in town, remember, patrol can always use bug spray, trash bags and water.

And as always we remind everyone....we operate on a very tight budget. 100% of our donations go towards payroll, golf cart and supplies. Zero, that is 0% goes to administrative costs. All administrative overhead is donated in the form of hard work and/or in kind contributions.

If you'd like to take a look at the monthly expenses going back to January 2016, take a look at our minutes found on our web page www.sacnw.org.

Dollar Drive

Now that tourist season is ramping up, we are attempting to boost our monthly income with dollar drives. Pairs of members station themselves at the beginning of the dirt road by Victoria House and ask passerby's to donate cash to support the SACNW. This requires 1-2 hours, or whatever time you can give, and has been very successful in the past. As well, it heightens awareness of our organization and the fact that it is only due to donations that we are able to have the Patrol keeping watch over our neighborhood.

Times are 11 am and 3 pm with scheduled dates over the next two weeks of Saturday 11/23, Tuesday 11/26, and Saturday 11/30.

Please pitch in on this volunteer effort to help make it a success.

You may contact Susan Watts at 634-5678 or by Facebook messenger.

Thank-you!

We hope you are enjoying yourselves either on the island or in your other home town. The February general meeting of the members will be held at Someplace South Cafebar this month. Come a little early and enjoy dinner before the meeting.

And, as we always say - our first responders are 100% donor funded. Our patrol is here for everything from theft to medical emergency to cart assist. They are a tremendous asset and all of the neighbors ban together to pay their salaries and purchase supplies. All administrative overhead is neighbor donated. :-)

We have just completed a revamp of our SACNW.ORG website. Please click HERE to visit our new site. You will note that it has a much cleaner layout, which will make it much easier for you to find the information you need. As it is new, please let me know if you find any issues.

Secondly, you can find the May 2022 General Meeting minutes on the new website: Meeting Minutes. The next General Meeting will be Wednesday, June 8th at 7:00pm at Someplace South CafeBar.

Thirdly, I want to encourage you to donate to keep SACNW running. I am sure you know, but SACNW is funded solely by contributions from good folks like you. We now make it much easier to donate via PayPal, with a credit card or through a direct bank transfer. Here are the donation details:

You can donate through PayPal on the website or from your own PayPal account directly to sacnwbelize@gmail.com.

You can set up a regularly recurring donation (we really love these!) HERE.

You can do a direct bank transfer from your bank to the SACNW account at CHASE BANK using Routing: 267084131 and Account: 380938362. This is particularly nice as SACNW doesn't pay any fees.

Friends and Neighbors,

SACNW needs your help!!!

We are losing members of the Executive Committee and need a few good people to volunteer to fill a role. The positions we need to fill are: Vice-President, Secretary (shared role) and, most desperately, Treasurer. If you can spare just a few hours (5-10) a month to help keep SACNW running, please reach out to me, another member of the current EC or come to the meeting. The Patrol Officers do a great job of keeping our neighborhood safe, but they rely upon us to manage the organization. Please consider helping!

The next monthly meeting is next week, Wednesday, September 13 at Someplace South CafeBar. The meeting starts at 7:00pm but come early for dinner/drink and to mingle with your neighbors.

I hope to see you at the meeting!

Kevin Owen
