So he looks like a trouble maker because he wears his hat backwards?! Are you nuts? My 30 yo adult son wears his hat backwards sometimes or sideways. Tons of people flash the "peace" sign or "heart" sign every day - from 3 yo to 80 yo. What planet are you from?
This child wasn't even on the island when the burglary happened Sunday night. They rounded up several teens to "question" them. They murdered this child then tried to get the doctors at the clinic to say he died at the clinic.
These thugs disguised as police deserve to spend the rest of their sorry days in Hattieville and only leave in a body bag.
My heart breaks for this family and for the people of this country who have to continually be brutalized by "authority" and sit back and take it.
Two Caye Caulker Police to be charged over death of Hilberto Sotz
The Caye Caulker Police Department (CCPD) is under heavy scrutiny over the death of 18-year-old Hilberto Sotz while in their custody, and as of Wednesday, June 10th, two of their own are facing charges for murder. The incident occurred on the evening of Monday, June 8th, and enraged island residents to the point that they took to the streets, rioting over the alleged police brutality. Since then, police forces have gained control of the situation in Caye Caulker and launched an investigation into the matter that led to the detention of two police officers attached to the CCPD: Nelson Nuñez and Hallet King. After a postmortem examination on the deceased, it was determined that Sotz had suffered major internal bleeding and trauma caused by excessive force. Furthermore, three other officers have also been placed on immediate interdiction as investigations have revealed that they were on duty at the time; they are Corporal Kirby Palma, WPC Bernadette Ramos and PC Edilberto Patt.
In an interview with The San Pedro Sun, Officer in Charge of the Coastal Executive Unit, Assistant Superintendent Henry Jemmott explained what occurred on the day of Sotz death. "After CCPD conducted their investigation on the various burglaries that have been happening across the island [Caye Caulker], five persons were identified as persons of interest. After an intense investigation, a couple of the stolen items were recovered. As a result Sotz was one of the person detained. At about 5PM he was removed from the cell blocked and taken to the interview room. Officers conducted their interviews and left the room. When they returned they saw him gasping for air, so they rushed him to the clinic. But Sotz was pronounced dead on arrival," said Jemmot. He indicated that the two officers that played a role in the interview were immediately detained. "We detained the officers that were conducting the interviews pending further police investigations. At the current time we are carrying out both an internal investigation and a criminal investigation on the burglaries. Sotz's body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City on Tuesday, June 9th for a post mortem investigation," said Jemmott.
Residents were adamant that Sotz died due to police brutality. A female resident who witnessed the events, but wishes to remain anonymous, indicated that Sotz was tortured to death. "The police beat him up and put a plastic bag over his head till he died. He was already dead when they took him to the clinic. So I don't know how the police can say he died at the clinic. We are here to fight the injustice that is being brought about by the police. We are not moving forward. We don't get help from local government; this is a cry for help. If no one will defend us, we need to come together as a community to fight for our betterment." Most island residents shared the same notion and are calling for justice.
The San Pedro Sun attempted to obtain information from the public clinic who treated Sotz the night of the incident, but they refused to comment on the incident. Both parents of the deceased were not available for interviews as they were tending to burial arrangements.

Caye Caulker residents complain about police officers on the island
Do you believe Doctor, Minister or Autopsy Report?
Following the untimely death of 18 Year old Hilberto Sots, the people of Caye Caulker protested angrily on the night Sots died inside the police station. Two officers, Leonard Nunez and Hallet King have been charged with murdering the youth. Minister of National Security John Saldivar has expressed his condolences but controversy has arisen with the autopsy report. People are confused about what to believe while pundits are hoping that Dr. Fernando Cuellar won't be called to testify for the officers accused of committing murder. By trashing the terminology used in the report, the conclusions appear futile as well as an implicit insult to the author of the report. The following quoted extracts are from 7 and 5 News.
John Saldivar, Minister of Police (Ch7) There must be something wrong happening out at Caye Caulker. This is something we cannot hide from. What took place in the murder of this young man is so heinous that we've got to stop and do a gut check as to what's happening out there. And as the minister of police I can assure the Belizean public that we will not cover up anything.
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist, BMA (News5) "It has here vascular shock which I am not familiar with the terminology; massive heart thrombosis, again it is not in my mind any medical terminology, acute post-traumatic, I'm not sure if it says acute post-traumatic cerebral edema which means that there was injury to brain but that may be what it's saying here. But long-short story is that I'm pretty much confused with these diagnoses, you know. They are not telling me anything actually."..."They are not cause of death. Vascular shock, I know nothing called vascular shock….
John Saldivar, Minister of Police (Ch7) The post-mortem have revealed that the young man was beaten and tortured by someone - we're supposing it was the two officers that beat and tortured him.one out of the two officers - I've been informed he has given a statement that is assisting the police's investigation."
Dr. Fernando Cuellar, Internist, BMA (News5) But what I am disappointed and saddened by is the terminology used on the death certificate as causes of death because from a medical standpoint and I have been practicing medicine for more than twenty years, I can't relate to that as a cause of death, vascular shock...I would even think that this report, conclusion, diagnosis, certificate is very much inconclusive and it makes no sense."
John Saldivar, Minister of Police (Ch7) I'm disappointed, I'm saddened and I must take this opportunity to express my condolences to the Sotz family. I am really deeply disappointed in the behaviour of my officers. It is a dark day for the police department and we must find a way to move on beyond this and bring closure and bring justice for the family and that is exactly what we are doing."

WOW! This Dr. is unbelievable! He needs to go back to school. I'm a layperson, with no medical knowledge but a quick google search reveals that he died of a massive heart attack caused by a blood clot. Plus his brain was swollen due to blows to the head.
From medicine.net
Thrombosis: The formation or presence of a blood clot in a blood vessel. The vessel may be any vein or artery as, for example, in a deep vein thrombosis or a coronary (artery) thrombosis. The clot itself is termed a thrombus. If the clot breaks loose and travels through the bloodstream, it is a thromboembolism. Thrombosis, thrombus, and the prefix thrombo- all come from the Greek thrombos meaning a lump or clump, or a curd or clot of milk. See entries also to: Cavernous sinus thrombosis; Renal vein thrombosis. And see: Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism.
Wikipidia:
A circulatory (vascular)collapse is defined as a general or specific failure of the circulation, either cardiac (heart) or peripheral in nature. Although the mechanisms, causes and clinical syndromes are different the pathogenesis is the same, the circulatory system fails to maintain the supply of oxygen and other nutrients to the tissues and to remove the carbon dioxide and other metabolites from them. The failure may be hypovolemic, distributive.
A common cause of this could be shock[1] or trauma from injury or surgery.[2]
and
Cerebral edema (swelling of the brain) can result from brain trauma or from nontraumatic causes such as ischemic stroke, cancer, or brain inflammation due to meningitis or encephalitis.[1]
Acute post traumatic means - the severe (acute) edema formed after (post) a sudden blow or injury (trauma) FYI -I didn't have to look that one up.
There you are Dr. Cuellar, I hope that clears it up for you.

Back in June 2016, police had initially charged two of their own officers posted on Caye Caulker with murder, for allegedly beating 18 year old Hilberto Sotz to death while in their custody. Today, after 10 months on remand for murder, a directive from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Cheryl-Lynn Vidal, instructed the court that the charges against Constable Hallet King and Detective Leonard Nunez would be lowered to manslaughter to lack of evidence to substantiate the greater charge. Specifically, the DPP found that a major link in the chain of proving murder - the intentions of the officers - was not established beyond a reasonable doubt. Disclosure in the case was delayed due to new evidence introduced which was not in the case file and which was being reviewed by the DPP. Today the court prosecutor asked for more time to put together the necessary documentation but the court ordered that it be done by today's end. Bail was granted to each man for 2 thousand dollars, subject to surrender of travel documents and report to their nearest police station - King in Punta Gorda, Nunez in Hattieville. Sotz's death caused great outcry in Caye Caulker and eventually led to the transfer out of the entire force on the island and other reforms.
