Make sure you can get a permit for it before you buy. I'm not sure of the present situation on permits with the TC. Didn't the mayor say something about this several weeks ago? Don't assume you can without checking.

My understanding is that, you can't get a permit for a
cart on the island, if you haven't established "Residency"
in Belize. Just my input. Someone else might know better
for sure. Good luck !!

Make an application at Traffic Dept. on the ground floor of Town Board building.
have a photo of where your going to park it and what your going to buy. The application doesn't mention Resident but you may have to show your electric bill with your name and address on it.

For the record, I DID exactly that, 11 months ago when I first
moved here. Application was denied. I was told "you must be a resident".

Could just be one person there telling folks that - I don't really know.
I've since inquired with other people here on this, and get a wide variety
of opinions. I just keep paying a monthly "lease fee" to the place I bought
my cart from, until my Residency goes thru (which "could" be the REAL
reason my application was denied - money being made somewhere else...)

Once again - just one person's experience. I do NOT profess
to know everything (or anything actually) on "how things work"
here. Just relating my personal experience - that's all.

You are technically not able to sell a golf cart without paying the import duty on it if you bring it in under QRP. Having said that there are a lot of ways to get around that.

There is demand. Remember though that the buyer must qualify to have a permit to own a cart on island. That point reduces the number of qualified buyers. If you "sell" without fully transferring to a qualified buyer, you won't be able to get another one in future and you may remain legally responsible for the cart if there is an accident.

We were fortunate...We owned our cart long before Residency, and many other people in our area (South of town) also bought vehicles on a tourists visa....At the time we were told we needed to confirm off street parking and storage.....It was a congestion issue....They did ask to see our Utility bill from our home along with a picture of parking, just as Elbert mentioned..... Good Luck...
