Elly, I take it back. If you can get the air-con suite deal at Hotel del Rio for $30. You should take it. That's about what that hotel is worth, IMO. However, they do have some suites that have been recently reno'd and so if you are getting one of those, you'll be reasonably pleased I'm sure. It's a ways down the beach to the north from where the action is but there's a real nice view that's not cluttered up with quite as many docks as lots of other places.

If you want to be more by yourself, then it's a good location. If you want to be more where the action is and where you will meet more people regularly, you'll want to be closer to town.

I made the final decision on Rubies(booked the room for two weeks this morning-yeah) based on exactly what you just said. Being solo and on my first trip I thought I would put myself right in the middle of things. If I feel the need for some alone time, I can just walk to a quieter area and plop down on a towel. At least I hope I can do this. The other places are not territorial about thier beaches are they? May seem like a silly question, but I have no idea how things are down there, and I do like to sit on the beach and read a bit.

For what it's worth....my son just returned from 2 weeks on AC. He did not stay at Rubies but two friends of his had a room there. He said the accomodations were suitable and a good value. And he said the location was one of the best and the food was good.
