Boy am I confused. What has being afraid of flying in small planes and crime in Bz. City got to do with problems in somebody's marriage that we know absolutely nothing about, much less assume they HAVE problems and we need to advise them on it?????

Back to the original question. Please clarify exactly what your wife is afraid of. Is it the size of the plane from Belize City to the island, or just flying in general? I noticed you didn't mention the flight to Belize just the commute to the island.
Your wife should know that if you are staying on Ambergris Caye, you will not be leaving the airport to venture around in Belize City so therefore she doesn't have to worry about that.

You will arrive at Phillip Goldson Airport, go through immigration and have your passport stamped, collect your luggage, go through customs and straight to the ticket counter for your commuter flight.
From the time you land in Belize City to the time you land in San Pedro, is all of about an hour and a half.

Mosquitos? Bring plenty of OFF or whatever you like to use. No sense in worrying about that, you can't change it.

Bot Flies? Same thing, can't change that either, wear shoes if you are that afraid.
Nothing says you can't have a good time while wearing shoes, right?

Bottled Water? Hasn't been a problem here for a long time. It's available in almost every store as well as directly from the distributor in every size from small hand pouches to 5 gallon jugs. I don't know of too many hotels now that don't use bottled water for cooking and drinking purposes.
They are used to the likes and dislikes of tourists. If you are not sure, ask your hotel.

Your wife will relax once she gets here. It's an infectious disease that hits you by the morning of day two. Tell her she can worry about catching the relaxing disease!!
LOL

Good luck to you both and may you have a peaceful and RELAXING vacation!

Holy Cow!!!!!
Pardon me, my mistake, LOL. I was thinking of that worm thing that gets in your feet from walking around barefoot, which I'm happy to report I have not experienced since living here.

This botfly thing sounds utterly disgusting!
Not saying it can't happen here, just haven't heard of it yet.

I'm sure Mark is very glad the eviction of his scrotal residents was successful. LOL
That is an unbelievable story! Nice Alien pictures too! WOW

Dat, you better cover your wife's eyes and not let her read that story! LOL
Like I said, bring plenty of OFF. Maybe it will prevent the original bite that causes this nightmare! Better make it the Deep Woods OFF.

In response to Gay.... Bot flies, pica pica, tiny prop planes, and undrinkable water are not a normal part of my job as an art gallery director. However, stress is a regular part of the job. The "idea" of a vacation may stress some people out - because it might involve things that they do not encounter on a regular basis but READ ABOUT ON THE INTERNET OR IN TRAVEL BOOKS- aka bot flies, pica pica etc.
I wouldn't have chosen Belize as a vacation spot. I would have chosen a nice B&B in the country or something like that to relax. But when the boyfriend comes home excited about Belize - what can you do?
Be scared - then ENJOY - as I did.

Have mercy on those of us who may START OUT less adventurous!

Belize is not for everybody. It is not for women who want to pampered and feel "safe" at some 5 star high-rise hotel. My 2 cents says, leave her at home before she ruins your vacation. Yeah Susanngg, they've got trouble brewing. I traveled to belize with 4 other women (never again) and three went home early. They never relaxed or took the time to get to know the people. They worried endlessly about the same thing DAT's wife is worrying about (mosquitoes, crime?, the commuter plane, the hurricanes, who's picking us up at the airport, etc). Even though we stayed at the most beautiful 5 bedroom villa on san pedro (casa tortuga) with a cook and maid they were never happy. I forgot about them and went on day trips everyday so they wouldn't ruin my vacation (they didn't) and came back to our villa with a smile on my face each day. Belize is heaven on earth (the snorkeling, the people, bicycling into town, the day spa at maruba, water taxis, the stars, the ruins). Even though I took the malaria pills, it gave some in my party diarrea. Yes, bring plenty of bug spray (deet), but funny how the natives don't seem to wear any. And yes, I wandered around san pedro barefoot and at all hours of night. (No shirt, No shoes, No problem) Met some beautiful people. Yes, I will go back to belize only without the stick-in-muds (Been there, done that). You Betta Belize It!!!!!

lol @ Jane

SanHam,
I am/was one of those wanna/gotta be pampered, 5 star services, NEED to have the penthouse, kinda women. But geeze, you must be picking the wrong women somehow, cause I sure do LOVE Belize! We stayed at the 5 BR house on the North side of the cut... the one with da big pool. lol
Give me a small resort, heck even just a room now, anywhere/anytime from now one. Don't need the penthouse anymore! Priorities change for good reasons.

dat...I promise, I was the same way as your other half two years ago! It took Dan about 2/3 years to get me there, (lol) but now I want every vaca in Belize!!!
