Thanks, just trying to be helpful.

Second thought is......no matter what kind of problems you have at home, if you can go on vacation to Ambergris you will feel better at least for that time. (This is not for those people that need 5 star pampering.) We that LESS is MORE, it works.

When working as a guide, I had a woman who expected disaster around every corner. She was terror personified when she stepped on Tropic Air at the Municipal Airstrip, 9 days into her trip to Belize, and then white knuckled it for the next 15 minutes all the way to SP, much to the embarrassment of her 2 teenage children.

The engine was turned off 20 feet above the runway at SP and there was a dull horn then bump. She shouted, 'What's that, what's that!'

A bored businessman said, 'stall horn' from behind his copy of the Amandala.

She shouted, 'OMG, stall horn, stall horn!'

Her mortified son replied, 'We're on the ground, Mom.'

The moral of the story? Relax!

I'll never forget my first plane ride from BZC to AC. I love planes and riding in them is wonderful. Our pilot was a born stunt man. As we approached AC from the north (kind of) he did a wingover that didn't stop till we did a three point touch down in a cloud of dust. What a kick. And I didn't have to wait in line for 45 minutes at 6 flag's for it. [Linked Image]

I am not a big fan of flying, but tolerate it for business and to travel. When going to AC, just have a couple of Jet's rum punches - you will be fine!

Took my son at age 12 to Belize. Did great on the big commercial aircraft... We taxied over to Muni and got out. He walked in, went to the window and looked at the planes, and went pale.... He freaked. He thought they looked like toys and was terrified. "We're not going to fly in those are we?" Poor thing trembled and I thought he was going to pass out.... The plane took off, (with his eyes closed)and floated up. After a couple minutes he peeked.... He was totally amazed, thrilled and excited. It was an experience of a lifetime for him.... He loved it. Had his nose pressed to the window until we landed. The anticipation was WAY worse than the actual experience. She'll be fine.

dat,

bet you're sorry you asked now! I hope some of this madness has helped. I know what it's like to have a "hyperventilator" in the fam - it's not easy, but hey, enjoy your vacation, and hopefully she will, too. Nothing more to add than before, but I've been twice - to the jungle and to AC, and never had a problem with mosquitos, botflys, malaria, drinking water, crime or any of the other "scares" you hear about. Just had a super good time. Good luck!

Flying is not my forte either. I hate big commercial aircraft. Was half terrified at the thought of the hopper out to AC. Basically it was fly or stay home and, obviously, I chose the flying. Did I like it? No. Still don't after six flights total getting there and getting back. But I do fly for work and some for pleasure (the arrival part, not the in-flight part) and it has just become a fact of life for me. For a lot of reasons, AC was not our dream vacation as it is with many on this board but it didn't have a thing to do with flying, turista, botflies, mozzies or too much/too little rain/wind, etc., etc., etc.
Life is too short to worry about all that stuff. Hope she figures that out, goes to AC and has a grand time!
