I noticed that Caribe Island resort was recommended when traveling with kids (ages 4 and 7). How does it compare to Xanadu??

This is our first visit so ALL info welcome. (SweetJane, I think you were the one who suggested Caribe Island in one of your postings. What do you think? Our kids are fairly good travelers so we are ok if there are noTVs etc. )

Also, we are trying to book something for Jungle and so far the options seem to be Jaguar Paw and Windy Hill, so if you have any suggestions regarding those options we would be delighted!

Many thanks!

We stayed at Caribe with my two kids and the couple we were with had two kids also and it could not have been better. The condos are perfect,as is the pool, the bar, restaurant, and of course the best beach on SP! It is too perfect.

My choice would be Caribe for sure. All good trip reports from everyone that has stayed at Caribe.

I stayed at Caribe Island this past June on a parent/child trip that I arranged (children ages 7-11). No complaints about C.I. - staff were great, location was ideal as we really didn't need access to town, and families were relaxed about the safety of their kids.
I was also happy that Debbie's party was after they left and I could partake!!! (Except for those brain cells).
Can't comment on Xanadu since I haven't stayed there...may do so in Dec.

Both are good places. Xanadu is a group of condos (odd looking "monolithic domes" with thatch hats, but nice inside) with some of the condos occupied by owners, and it has fewer units than Caribe Island so there likely would be fewer kids around. It has a nice new pool and a good stretch of beach. It's closer to town than Caribe Island, in a busier area but you can walk from there to town, whereas Caribe Island is a bit too far to hike except occasionally.

yep, that was me that said it. we were at CI in june with our kids. they have cable tv (that's right, sponge bob was there with us).

also, we stayed at duplooy's with the kids in cayo, at debbie (and barb k's) recommendation. i liked it a lot. we were right on the macal river. saw lots of birds & iguanas etc. took a canoe ride down the river & climbed xunantunich.

the kids liked AC better than the jungle, as the mainland was very hot & sweaty. i love waking to the jungle sounds.

we rented out the whole brand new casita. it had ceiling fans, nice decor, king beds, all hardwood floors & trim, and was private.

Absolutely stay at Caribe Island Resort. It was simply the best place. We've stayed at many places in San Pedro and liked it the best by far. While the other places were good, I think this would be the best choice if you have kids...

I agree with your comments entirely Lan and Barb, for people who do not live in Belize, are very well informed but are not always correct in their interpretations of what goes on.
