I've been reading past posts about important things not to forget when travelling to Belize and everyone says not to forget your flashlight! My question is WHY? What on earth is the flashlight for??

Oh, and one more thing - why bring zip lock bags?

Incase the electricity goes off.

Night walking the docks/piers to see the sealife under water. The best fun with kids.

Walking back to your room at night, some areas not well light and some potholes.

Most rooms, have flashlights in them, incase of power failure, but not to be taken outside.

I carried mine for 13 nights in a row, last night decided not needed. While at the casino major power failure all over town. No flashlight, I was not afraid of walking in the dark, except for the potholes, did not need a broken ankle. So called a taxi.

Walking thru the courtyard at SunBreeze was difficult, trying to remember where the wooden chaises were located, not to fall face first. The darkest night, no moon, strange hearing voices all around you at the bar and restaurant and could not see one another. I made it just fine.

An underwater flashlight is really nice. Hang it off the dock at night attached to a string and watch all the see life that's attracted to it.... It's wonderful. Depending on where you're staying you may have to drive a golf cart through an unlit area to get home.... It's a little scarey. Zip-locs? wet swim suits for your trip home. Keep your cigs, personal items, etc. dry on a dive or snorkel trip, so your shampoo doesn't explode in your suitcase, marinate fish that you caught for dinner, carry fresh fruit with you on your adventures. I can think of a million reasons........Anyone care to add to this??? Debbie

Zip lock bags......a friend gave me this idea and it's kinda a cool "souvenier". I carry ziplock bags with me now and bring back a little sand from each island I go to. I bought stackable plastic bead holders and put the sand in them, of course writing the name of the place on the side. It's a small souvenier, doesn't break and it's kinda cool to see the difference in the texture and color of the different beaches.

zip lock bags are also good if you're going to Belize City or Guatemala and use a money belt. Put your passport and/or travs checks in the bags so they stay dry.

almost every liquid cosmetic I travel with is wrapped in an individual zip lock - so if that particular bottle explodes (one per trip usually does from the changes in pressure - even in carryon) - I can sop up the stuff and still use it.

Plus, if you plan to bring back hot sauce...

Flashlights can be used to produce small amounts of light which can be aimed in various directions, as for ziplocs, they can be used to put things in.
