Man, the paradigms are jiggling. I believe what we have is a healthy thing; collaborative filtering, which is not unique and a very effective means of deriving information from the experiences and opinions of a number of people. A common use of collaborative filtering is the creation of lists of World Wide Web pages of interest to particular people. By documenting the experiences of several people, a list of interesting Web sites can be "filtered." Collaborative filtering is also used as a marketing research tool- by keeping a database of opinions and ratings regarding several products, researchers can predict which new products the people contributing to the database will like.
The equation is simple: research + self reliance = personal experience.
It's not about the one, it's about the whole.

Ticket, You will find the people in San Pedro, very pleasant. The angry fellows and those who like them post a lot. Perhaps some people don't go to Belize often enough or they stay too long. I don't know but I think they are just getting the "uglys" out of their system. Belize is my favorite place on earth and I have traveled a lot. Enjoy!!

I hope everyone's input is welcomed here. I don't have time to waste on a pissing contest about who has the 'best' info. Let the readers have a choice of perspectives. It feels like kindergarten around here a lot lately. I'm telling Mom.

Oh my- such a bunch of grumpies! Anyway, I will chime in, never having been to Belize (yet- 3 1/2 weeks and counting). I had somewhat similar needs, and also did not want a party hotel. We decided on Caribe Island for several reasons, but finally because of the sea tranmpoline, which seemed as good a reason as any other. It looks lovely, and I finally realized that driving my self nuts over which hotel was not useful. As far as I can tell, unless you have a very specific need or want, until you have been there, your decision will be a guess based on the rather strongly held opinions of people you don't know. It's certainly a big help, but in the end- have a great trip!

popcorn? they serve it up fresh popped at caribe island's bar!

i also stayed at caribe island resort twice, and will never stay anywhere again. i did not see the inside of banana beach, but from the outside it looked too motel-ly, and the balconies didnt have any decent views.

you can see the insides of all suites on their website: www.caribeislandresort.com

contact vicki at caribe island!! i guarantee you will not be disappointed. all suites have kitchens, air, tv, etc. and the views & beach are to die for!!!

it is south of town, but the golfcart ride in is ALWAYS an adventure! (you pass the crocs on the way) i love it there. the food is quite good at the resort, but half the fun is eating all over. they have a nice pool, and a dive shop on premesis. also, free use of bikes & kayaks, water tramopline & paddle boat.

here are pics from my trip there 6/03:
