We underestimated how much cash we would need during our trip to San Pedro last month. (That's the last time I listen to my husband on such matters.) Anyway, I had to go to a bank and get a cash advance on our credit card. It cost $15.00 BZ, plus they start charging interest instantly. However, it is a much better option than having to be worry about running out of cash. We did use our credit card a lot at restaurants. I just paid the bill yesterday, an $80.00BZ dinner would be $42.00US or so. Yea, there's a charge, but for us the convenience was worth it. Can't wait to go back.

This is how I have solved the money issue. I bring as much cash as I can and my ATM MMC ( and a creditcard that I am not supposed to use!). I charge only air-fares. If you use an ATM MMC you can get cash at the bank, for a fee of course, but you get away from the interest for cash advance. Check out Milo's money exchance as a another possibility to get cash from a credit card. Quite a few places don't take credit cards, like crazy Canuck's, ask before you plan to pay with a creditcard! And yes, most that do charge a hefty fee and more often then not you won't find out til you get your check!
