I think AC is very safe. Like some people mentioned, if you use common sense, then you should be fine. Keep in mind that everyone there are very causal, so leave your diamond ring or expensive watch home. You will have one less thing to worry about!!

mlgbwn and puffy: I see you are new members, welcome to the board. I am sorry to have to reply to your recent posts in a contadictory way. Please be assured that it is not meant be in an arguementative way. I am sure you will get plenty of that if you stay around.

The important point I think needs to be made and focused on is that if a person wants to come to AC and wear diamonds and expensive watches, they should not have to worry about it. And if they do, then there is a problem that exists and needs to be addressed. We want AC to be a place where people are not told "be safe, don't wear jewelry or carry money" rather "don't worry it's safe here, do what you want". AC used to be that way and can still be that way if people accept nothing less. smile

I am trying hard to stay off this thing but guess I'll have to add my 2 cents. I lived in San Pedro and still visit quite often.I wear a gold watch, gold bracelet, gold ring and a huge gold nugget necklace. When I go back now my best friend goes with me. He wears a $20,000 watch and a big diamond ring and have NEVER had a problem of any sort. Of course we both weigh in at 250# and 275#, and pretty damn ugly. Maybe that helps keep the bad boys away.

Just keep wearing the jewelry. Sounds like if you take it off you will only weigh in around 150lb, that could then be a problem. :p

If Bill Thornton cool can walk the streets of San Pedro in a purple feather boa and tiara without incident then we can assess the present safety situation as "RED ALERT". laugh

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am not saying that people should not wear what they want! Sorry if I have made it sound bad...What I am saying is that those items simply draw more attention since most people there are so causal.

To be honest with you all, I was very comfortable in San Pedro and I would actually worry more when I leave the ATM machine walking back to the car than worrying about being robbed in San Pedro.

But again, using common sense is the rule of thumb =)

One more thing to add.
I ended up leaving my money & passport in the room (I stayed at a budget place). I simply felt that the place's safe. Just don't leave money or valueable items out in case people could see from the window or if the door is opened when cleaning ladies are working in the room.

And yes, always lock the door. I mean you wouldnt leave your house door unlocked so why would you want to leave the hotel room door unlocked?
