The beach at Ramon's was clean and raked everyday during my stay. That is the clean stretch of beach I am referring to.

Hey I didn't call you anything, in fact I don't even wish to communicate with you. But now that you've brought it up, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, must be a duck.

So, Lotus, if I were to say that, in my opinion, I think there are some very nice beaches on Ambergris Caye, would that make me a flat out liar too?

The fact that you managed to avoid just about every decent restaurant on Ambergris Caye during your 9 days here tells me that your opinions are not always perfect, no matter what YOU may think.

lotusflames,

I am curious. Did you meet your wife in therapy?

Jen - Despite the differing views on AC beaches, I don't think that your non-diver friend should have any problem getting in some great beach time.

There are several popular beliefs as to the origin of the word Belize. http://www.nytimes.com/fodors/fdrs_feat_26_1.html

If you have such a problem with Belize and the people on this board then why are you spending so much time here? You must have better things to do. As you said previously, you won't go back to Belize - too many other places to see. So feel free to go start some trouble on some other destination's message board. We all happen to like Belize, we all happen to like this message board (some times more than others!) We all try to give reasonably honest views of the country (of course with a pro-Belize bent). Yes there is trash on some beaches, especially between resorts and in town, and I myself have spent a lot of time picking it up while walking. But most of the beaches are very beautiful and the hotels usually make every effort to keep them clean and raked. The sea grass is not necessarily a bad thing - that's where the fish breed and it prevents beach erosion. And for the guys raking it everyday, all day... hey - job security!

I have been to beaches all over the world and I still maintain there are some very nice ones in AC. Some are not as nice. That is the way it is.
I guess I am joining the group that flat out lies. Peter and Chris - scoot over and make room for me...

And come on folks - let's not pick on someone who actually explored the whole way from VH to town!
He must know more than the people who have been living and/or visiting for many years.

Lotus, Belize may very well translate to "murky water", but that doesn't mean it is a blanket decription of the entire country. Is it possible that name came from some mainland river or some other body of water? I think you are misleading people about the water clarity around AC. The water is crystal clear all the way up to the beach(sea wall). Also, when did that 1 syringe become syringes?
