Back to the question: I agree with Katie, and my observation has been that although there are no gay/lesbian bars, Belize is generally neutral. It doesnt matter if you're open or not about it, no one bothers you about anything on Caye Caulker.

I'm all for colorful speech and using words in new ways. It's going to happen anyway, and done well, one ends up with insights, poetry and jokes. The paradigmatic pirated word, though, was re-defined knowingly and cynically to achieve a political or commercial end. I'm just trying to point out what's been packed into the pirated words, and what's been lost.
What used to sound like sophomoric humor has now become everyday. For instance, the law that lets people be detained without access to a lawyer is called The USA PATRIOT Act, and they even got it as an acronym.
That's called a segue.

My partner and I (gay male) spent 2 weeks on Ambergris a year and a half ago. Although there are no 'gay' bars, there is plenty of places to go. I will add though, that although most people don't care, we felt ill at ease in some places. Two locals at separate times hurled homophobic insults at us while we were walking down the street, and no, we weren't holding hands.
I am amused by Idaho-divers reply. Who cares?? You obviously have a problem with your own sexuality to say such a thing. Maybe you and your wife or husband should have a talk.

Personally I don't think it is any of my business who is gay and who isn't. It doesn't affect how I treat someone. I think we should all settle down and have a fantastic new year!!!

I agree! I'm straight, but have many friends in many different lifestyles. If it's not your relationship, who cares? Go and enjoy your life, it's so very short anyway, and besides, you may miss an opportunity to see things from a new perspective. Happy New Year.
