Looking at staying at Ramon's in a honeymoon cabana at the begining of Aug. I was told there is a dog kennel located directly behind this property and guests are complaining about the dogs barking all night long. Has anybody heard this? Also any other comments about this property or others would be greatly appreciated? Thanks.

Hmmmm. We stayed at Ramon's twice last year (March and August) in a beachfront cabana on the side that doesn't have the seawall. It was pretty quiet both times we stayed there. Occasionally you'd hear people on the beach late at night but it never bothered us. Right behind Ramon's is a street, which makes the garden cabana's a little noisy, but I don't think there is a dog kennel ( and I could be totally wrong about that) and if there is we never heard any barking dogs. I'd recommend asking for the honeymoon cabana on the beach side as opposed to the seawall side. Ramon's is a great resort. You are going to have a fabulous time. You are welcome. Both trips we brought Deet spray with us for the mosquitos. We have been lucky enough never to have to use it. During our August trip the couple staying next to us went to Lamanai - Mayan ruins, inland jungle trip. Their legs were literally covered with mosquito bites. I guess it's better to be safe than sorry and bring some Deet spray with you. We are going back this August again for two weeks. Since we are staying longer we got a condo with a kitchen at The Palms right next to Ramon's. I can't wait to return. Take care, mobunny

I think the "kennel" referred to is probably SAGA, but never heard of any complaints about this before.

How close is this SAGA to the honeymoon cabanas or Ramon's in general?

SAGA is the animal rescue organization on the island, and they are across the street behind Ramon's. My husband and I have stayed next door at The Palms where the rooms have bedroom windows that face the back, and we have never been bothered by any barking or animal noise. I don't think the shelter is big enough to house more than a few animals at a time, so it's not like it's a huge kennel with dog runs or anything. It's a small house with trees that block the view to the street. I suspect if there were a problem, you could go over there and talk with them about it. That's just how the Belizian people are--open and welcoming. And if you stop by, give them a few bucks. They always welcome contributions since the animal population on the island is a big problem. I really, really enjoyed your pictures. I'll be staying at Ramon's for my first visit to AC from 2/3-2/11.

Couple quick questions for you, if you don't mind:

1) Did you bring your own beach towels, or did Ramon's provide them?

2) One of your pics mentioned the daily claiming of the chaise--is this something we should plan on doing because of a shortage or something??

3) Which tour did you take to Altun Ha? Was it the tour offered through Ramon's?

Marsali, so glad you enjoyed the pics.

1) We brought our own beach towels, Ramon's doesn't provide them.

2) We always claimed our chaise early in the morning - just because we had a favorite spot we liked under one set of palms outside of our room. The beach at Ramon's is popular so it's a good idea to get a spot you like early.

3) We did all our tours that trip with SEArious adventures. Willie is a wonderful guide. I really really enjoyed that day. If I remember correctly SEArious is located in front of Ruby's on the beach.

I am green with envy that you are going to SP so soon, I alas have to wait until August. Have a fabulous time!! Looking forward to your trip report. mobunny
