codfather love your name ,no not a good thing ..bone fish as bait ..but ,again this is there thing ,called capt bicho we speak almost evey day ,says it is not a sanpedro thing.. just a example of using a pick up guide . I love when the hotels ,scramble ,and rush ,to find anybody after they sell fishing to a new person ie =[tourist novist ] on the island first time ...as the hotels mostly use any body with a boat just to turn a buck ..when fish are bitting or jumping in boat these guys just ok ,but when fish are picky they lose it ..my buddy is multi talented , wonderful fishing guide reef /flats great beach bbq /great diver does it all!!!!! ..can talk the talk ,and walk the walk .. as well as a few other guides that are the great ones but just a few as most are old , ... my capt bicho spends about $ 30 us more dollars on gas ,then the other guys.. when he looks for fish ,no bites,no action ,he moves the boat ,goes further then most ,till success .. he will work very hard for the clients he loves to catch fish .pound for pound best capt there and he uses a mate/snorkel buddy to pamper his folks .he is building a good fishing business..fishingsanpedro .com says it all ... and bicho knows how to make people happy ..why go second class when first class is the same price .. lets fish one day together you will have a great time you will see the differance ..live the dream and enjoy ..

Angelo: I share your passion for fishing. I do all kinds of fisning in Belize from bill fishing, our boat won the Belize Bill Fishing Tournament year before last, to flats fishing and everything in between. I release all bone fish, tarpon and permit I catch. I lobby for the Belize Bill Fishing Club to go to catch and release for the tournaments. That has not happened as yet. But please consider that you are a guest in another country. You can lead by expample when hirering a guide and practice your ethics and methods of fishing. But, just because someone does not hold the same beliefs as you, does not make them a "twisted person". When I first started fishing Belize 36 years ago, everything caught was killed and eaten. Hell, on one of my first trips down there, we were fishing the flats behind AC and the guide saw and killed a manatee to be taken back to the village.
People are slow to change. What you are objecting to has been done there since fisherman started fishing and is still being done. It will change as more sport fisherman come, hire guides and compensate them for the privilage of catching and releasing their fish. It won't change by showing a "holier than thou" attitude and insulting them. People who grew up in a fishing village where survival depended on eating fish might consider someone who spends their time, gas, wear and tear on their boat to catch fish and then release them to be stupid. But, I have never heard any of them call us that. I guess people are different. smile
