Based on my experiences flying both airlines over the past 12 or 14 years, I'd say they are very similar in price, service, safety, dependability and so on. It used to be that Tropic was preferred by a lot of folks, but with new management and investment Maya Island has been on a roll of late. I do like the new terminal Maya Island has at the municipal airport in Belize City and its nice facilities in one or two other areas.

Tropic offers some great day trips through their website. They save you hours of travel time. We took the Lamanai tour last month. Fantastic!

We fly Tropic because when we get off the plane we can WALK to the Belizean Reef. I guess if had dive equipment or other heavy luggage we would opt for a cab. Jean

Maybe the responses have been "apples and oranges". Of course the terminals are "right there together" in Belize City. But in San Pedro, they're on opposite sides of the runway.If you do walk to your lodging Mayan is just more of a hike.
