I'm so sorry you had a bad trip. Belize is defintely not for everyone. We just returned from Belize (part on AC) November 7th and I must say so far this has been the best vacation I've ever taken. I loved the simplicity of the whole country and the friendliness of the people. I didn't experience any of what you mentioned. I also don't dive and still enjoyed myself tremendously (but I don't have kids either). Research, research, research before you go anywhere. I knew before I got to AC what to expect from the beaches and where to go for some of the best, least expensive food, so there weren't any surprises.

CrackerLarry, you are so right about Jamaica. Now THAT'S one place I won't ever return to.

Sorry you didn't have a better time......but really I just don't understand how you couldn't have a good time on San Pedro and I don't dive. So... tell all your friends what a bad time you had, just leaves more rum punch for me.
We are coming back on Jan 29th for 15 wonderful sun filled days(and rum punch filled days). Sorry you won't be here.
