If you run into the back of any moving vehicle, no matter how fast they stop, you are guilty of following too closely. In most countries, including Belize, you will be ticketed accordingly.

If the SP gets overly crowded for you, move.

Enjoy the ride!

my question is what is the criminal charges associated with speeding in a golf cart? No, Belikin for the rest of the week? Just wondering.

That photo is too funny. I also wonder what "criminal charges" could be imposed for speeding in a golf cart. No Belikin for the rest of the week would be a crime in itself!

SIN: I have defensed some jury trials when my client rear ended someone who stopped suddenly for no reason. It is also amazing how many set up accidents there are here in the States.

My old eyes hurt after reading all this...I spent 2 weeks in January and did notice an increase in traffic over past years, mostly large construction vehicles(dump trucks and such)...I think the best bang for the buck from my tourist point of view is to implement a speed limit and inforce it, with big fines.....the next death will be ATV related...trust me...

Putting so called "restrictions" on obtaining vehicle permits has never worked here. It just ensures that the officials in charge get rich with the bribes.

Time for the government to spend some of our (San Pedro's) tax dollars (about 20% of the 10's of millions we send them every year will be plenty) on proper roads throughout the island....with lots of speed bumps installed, of course. The roads could be regular blacktop with coral sand coloured chipseal to make them look "islandy."

We're stuck with the traffic, might as well make the best of it. Perhaps lots of speed bumps on proper roads will make people think twice about trying to bring big, fast expensive vehicles to the island.

Am I asking for too much?

Braver than some, willing to rise to the bait, ouch, don't touch that! I'm willing to risk it. I'm dumb.

...had to "laugh" when I found out that the San Pedro Police Department has a Radar speed detector, but, lack the ablility to impliment a traffic enforcement program. I understand that the police believe it is the jurisdiction of Traffic...and Traffic believes that it is the Police departments responsiblity. A shuttle was implimented years ago, traveling back and forth to the resorts in the south to "downtown". The Taxi Cab Association pitched such a fit, that the open air "trolly" was abandoned. Simularly...it has been proposed that a bus take children to the DFC area for lunch and return to school...but again, the Taxi Cab Association has been able to stop the plan because of revenue loss. The Tour Guides and Taxi Cab Association have TREMENDOUS clout!!!!

wow, i can tell kippe never had to travel the katy freeway at 5:00, and in turn should thank the lucky stars for that. thank you for giving us a heads up on the traffic dangers. sorry it seems to be trivial to some of us who deal with majors freeways each day. remember we are pea green with envy that you are there and we are here.
i would love to be in sp right now rather than visiting through a chat board. i would prefer sitting in a line that looks over a river cut to sitting in a line overlooking concrete structures.
golf cart rental is not cheap and is a very big tourism money making business. it will not go away. in this country, there are inconsiderate drivers as well, maybe those are the "tourists" that were referred to as leaving their manners at home.
on a side note, i continue to fill my penny jar so that i may some day start construction on my home. the construction costs are very high. i can't understand why the pay is pityful, can you?
