CHETUMAL, November 16th.- The Secretary of the Navy reported that through the Mexican Navy, alleged contraband merchandise was seized in the Hondo River, on the Mexican-Belize border.

This action was carried out as a result of maritime surveillance carried out by naval personnel belonging to the Seventeenth Naval Zone, based in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, on board surface units, on the Hondo River at a river crossing that is located in the village of Santa Elena, where naval personnel saw five smaller vessels, which were abandoned by their crews after noticing the presence of naval personnel.

Inside these boats, elements of the Marine Infantry located 27 boxes, which contained: 1,391 (one thousand three hundred and ninety-one) cigarette packs, 520 (five hundred and twenty) pairs of tennis shoes, 122 (one hundred and twenty-two) bags and 96 (ninety-six) perfumes; merchandise that was made available to the Attorney General of the Republic, for the integration of the corresponding investigation folder.

As a result of these actions, the Secretary of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy acting as Coast Guard, reinforces its commitment to the citizenry, to help curb criminal activities by protecting the Mexican coast.
