otteralum, had a similar experience with US Air several weeks ago. we were booked on a flight to Belize from Chicago thru Charlotte, and when i called to reconfirm about 6 weeks prior to travel, i was told they no longer were offering flights on the days we were traveling. we ended up having to cancel our trip, since we couldn't add an extra day on each end. good thing i checked because i am not sure if or when they were planning to notify us.
