On mature relection....
this is not a question of players not being good enough. You don't lose ball skills overnight. we have all seen these guys playing great football in the premiership. Rooney 3 months ago before his inevitable injury was being hailed as the best player in the world (a bit OTT if you ask me, but that is what was being said). Hardly lived up to that yesterday did he!!!!
No, this is a question of psychology. these guys are not up for it. Why? Only they and the manager know the answer. But if a team goes onto the field with their tail between their legs, the manager and captain must take the blame.
Gerrard is however excused. After the season he has had at Anfield, total depression written all over his face week after week, not knowing who he will be playing for next season, and being anyway a crap captain at the best of times, I doubt he even wanted the job as England's captain.
Capello must take responsibility for all this. The worst thing any manager can say about anything is " I don't know" We have to find someone who DOES know.
So a real genuine MUST WIN on Wednesday. And will we (England fans) be watching with huge optimism? Of course we will.
BTW does Zoe play left side or right side? She can have either (or both)
