No IP checking is done and you can use the wireless from anywhere or alternatively (if you don't have access to wireless internet) go to an internet cafe with your laptop, plug your kindle into your laptop and choose "download to computer" with your kindle being your auxiliary "hard drive" by virtue of the USB connection.
