The old ferry was 'cool'. But that was when the population north of the bridge was minuscule in comparison to what it is now (and will grow to). You'd need a fleet of ferries to attempt to cope. And they'd fail. Or if they succeeded boats entering /leaving the Caribbean would be queued up waiting for the opportunity to head west/east.
