So interesting given that the countries with the lowest recidivism rates are those that prioritise rehabilitation and work on the basis that the things that lead to people committing crime are individual and complex and that when people are released, it's far better to put healthy people, with good self esteem and job opportunities back into society than angry, resentful people with no opportunity, hope and a lot more criminal skills. But hey, who cares about that? Punishing them makes some feel better and feeling better is a lot more important than recidivism rates.
