Well, let's be real here. People do sometimes get disappointed with the town and many of the houses around it, and potential visitors should be aware of that. This is Caribbean. Re lodging, you can go from $30 or $40 to $400, so certainly not rustic if you choose it not to be so. And, we have all heard the yapping (no pun intended Doggie) about the dogs and debre. So, it does have aspects that turn people off. Belize is not froo-froo. Again, my husband was disappointed when we first got there. Not me. Now he loves it as much as I do. Never have we felt unsafe there. Never have we been subjected to hustlers (although I do hear there is more of a problem on Caulker and Belize City). Don't know.

There is a spirit to Belize that you either will, or will not accept as a traveler. It is certainly one of my favorite places on earth or I wouldn't be on this board.
