We will be on AC July 2-July 9. We are thinking about an overnight excursion to St Georges Caye staying at St. Georges Pleasure Island Resort. Tue-Wed or Wed-Thurs. Any Info on the Caye, the resort, transportation to and from AC, food and drink and flats fishing would be great.
I have done a complete search and found no more than a bit of history.
I also have George Bradley booked for flats fishing on Monday the 4th and Friday the 8th of July if anyone would like to split with me.

PS:Who has the FIREWORKS and where's the party on the 4th of July?

I have been to Pleasure Island but not stayed there. Nice, kind of basic but clean, individual cabanas on the beach. Good food at the restaurant, friendly folks who run it and work there. Very quiet island. Only one other hotel/restaurant. Mainly private houses. There is a very cool aquarium on the island definitely worth a visit. I snorkeled around the island but did not fish there. There are lots of pics of it on my photo site on the Sept 04 trip page. http://photos.yahoo.com/barbsbelize

I e-mailed them before my posting yesterday. No response yet. Nice Pics BarbaraK. How did you arrange for transportation to and from? Hey SimonB, does your portfolio have any fireworks on it? BREWKettle

Chooch, I thought maybe the dive shop collapsed because you had too much One Barrel stashed in the corner for the pillings to support!

Easy to get there from San Pedro-most of the water taxis between Belize City-Caye Caulker-San Pedro will stop for you at St George's Caye, 9 miles from Belize City, just off the reef. All you need to do is book the room. I see lots of manatees and dolphins in this area. Lovely little island, I spend lots of time there.

Sorry no fireworks in my portfolio, my understanding is that they're illegal. Could be wrong but that was what I was told by locals.
Katie brings up a point, I was anchored off St. George's Caye on an overnight sail last year and woke up to a Manatee swimming circles around the boat munching on Sea Grass.
If you can get a dinghy you can go North from St. George's through the small Mangrove islands to a place called Miami Beach. It's all sand bottom 2-5' deep and goes on for miles, great spot for body surfing when the waves are up.

Otherwise the folks at www.seasportsbelize.com will probably be able to arrange a trip out to the island. That's how I got there but it was a special deal for travel agents, etc to see the place.
