Perhaps it was in the height of the rainly season and the river was running high & fast? Still sounds weird and like someone was pulling your leg. Although one of my agents almost drowned on the usually calm Macal during a June canoe trip when the river had raised up by 20 feet from the rain. I am sure she would relate!

I agree that Caves Branch is the place to go!

Although I don't doubt what you were told, Dizi-B, I never heard of that happening either. I also remember being told "Butt up" and the poor older lady in front of me didn't hear it, the rocky bottom tore her bathing suit and you could see the scrapes on her hiney! Ouch!

We'll think about trying it again, maybe the river was up the last and only tubing trip we ever took, but I remember the "Butt Up" episodes :p My cheeks were bruised after that trip!
Anyway, thanks for everyone's input, it's good to know it doesn't happen to everyone that goes tubing.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like Caves Branch is the way to go (as opposed to the guide that will scare us to death). Should we fly into Belize and then arrange a pick-up from there? Should we try zip-lining or something else?

We highly recommend the trip offered by Tropic Air. Its a great operation and you are just about guaranteed to be the only folks on that trip, so no crowds and your guide is yours alone. cool

Well, back in the day, to enter Belize's caves under Mayan rule, you had to be a member of an elite family or a shaman ready to sacrifice humans.

If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.
