Well, try some of the Belizean Wines in that case, grown just outside of Burrel Boom. Rendezvous Restaurant also produces some of their own wines as well.

Wow! All of this 'cause Tweadybear wanted to know about bringing in a couple bottles of 30 year old wine for their 30th anniversary---have a heart guys and cut 'em some slack! They deserve to be able to bring in some special wines and Amanda a couple bottles isn't going to kill the economy, they are here eating, drinking, and lodging...wassup with that? It ain't exactly chickenfeed for a few lousy bottles of wine. There I have gotten myself in trouble again, but I have said my peace! Amen John in Denver P.S. I don't bring anything into the country except money and when I leave...most if not all of it is gone, and my credit cards are happy, and I am too!!

I bring in a couple of bottles of fine California wine every time I come, and you would be amazed how many Belizeans enjoy them with me....without a thought about the wine de vine shop! Wine de vine does not carry the california white wines I like.........and they fit in my suitcase just fine.

Amanda,
I saw the movie "Sideways."
3 times so far.
I agree with you 100%, you do think it's crappy.
Regarding schools. Govt pays around 1/2 the expenses of the Roman Catholic primary school, the R.C. church pays the other half. The school has seen very little improvment or expansion in the past 15 years despite the population of the island going up by 500% or more in that time. I remember my daughter Gina attending the R.C. school 15 years ago and it was overcrowded then. And there were no private island school alternatives in those days.
The other primary schools here on the island are privately owned and run and all offer good education at a reasonable price...some less expensive than others but all very cheap considering the long-term investment being made by parents. Thank goodness for them otherwise we'd probably be looking at 400 children MORE with no chance of a basic primary education.
Not sure what percentage of the San Pedro High School the government pays for. The new "South Park" High School at the Medical School building is 100% privately owned and run.
Have I gone off topic here? Something about wine, right?
Yes, I do like wine.

Sideways wasn't about California wine...it was about drunks.... we're talking about 2 bottles of wine...and by the way I didn't see Renaisssance vineyards or J. Lohr on Simonb's list....I live in California....no Husch....but you can't carry it all........so relax...let them bring in their own wine and quit putting a guilt trip on them like they are keeping the children from an education.......that's bulll...you know the parents pay for the education in reality....the govenrment does the bare minimum....ask a local! Let these people bring in their wine and quit it!

Hey, nobody said they CAN'T bring in their wine. They posted a message on the board - duh - that means they wanted to hear people's opinions. As always, the opinions are all over the place.
The only thing we seem to agree on is that the movie Sideways sucked.
Maybe I should watch it one more time and see if there is a hidden message. If is only about drunks I guess I can do my own research right here in San Pedro Town.
Maybe the Wine DeVine club could make a movie - wining & dining on Ambergris Caye - we could lobby to have it broadcast on MTV - and a different board member could "guest star" on each episode so that the world could hear our opinions on the missing tapes and yellow legal pad controversy.
I know tuition payments at the high school are much higher than at the Primary school. I think this is to help cover the computer and science lab costs. My eldest attends high school in Belize City and the GOB pays $50 Bz per student per month, so long as the child maintains a passing grade (70%) the parents pay an additional $30 per month.

clover, Sideways wasn't about drunks, it was about 2 men undergoing comic crisis in their love-lifes.
Amanda, I thought Sideways was (and is) brilliant.

Consuming at least a bottle of cheap southern Salinas Valley wine a night might have an adverse effect on relationships.........
