I'm a history buff too, and the ancient Mayan culture has always interested me. Mel Gibson is supposedly filming a movie in the Yucatan near the city of Merida, { which is one of my favorite city in the world ! } about the Yucatecos Mayans in their golden age. The film will be called "Apocalypto". It will be set in the year 1500 ad. It is supposed to released in summer 2006. .........ms

A while back I posted asking about the meaning of Maya on behalf of my partner.

Since then, my partner has gone off and done some research, contacting a number of people in the field. They responded enthusiastically as not many people had asked this question before and as a result they have written a definition of Maya that is available on line. It is not definitive, but is very interesting.
