Wow! sweet lobster! I was with you on some of your dives and really appreciated your pics.

You must have an awesome camera, I never take pics underwater anymore as they don't turn out like it really looks under there. Yours sure did!

Thanks for the comments abiut the pics and thanks for sharing yours Razor (love the dolphin). I tried to take the advice I saw on the board (I think it was ScubaLdy) who said 'Get close, get down and something else - possibly boogie?). The equipment is a Nikon Coolpix 5200 - standard digital camera, an Ikelite housing and a SunPak G-Flash unit. I like the combination but I think I would benefit from a better strobe.

I am certainly no expert despite your kind comments and I'd advise anyone to give it a go. It's fun and very absorbing!!

I just ordered the set of 3 books - $75, not too bad. The reviews were excellent so hopefully I'll get the captions on the photos correct soon. Thanks for the recommendation.

Sue & Ian,

Wow! What fantastic pics!!! I don't scuba but will be snorkelling and was just wondering what I WON'T see by only being able to snorkel. I LOVED the sea turtle - any chance I'll see one snorkelling? We leave on the 9th for AC and I've got to buy some disposable underwater cameras as I don't think they make a waterproof covering for my Coolpix 2500. I have checked it, but given that it's a compact pocket camera, I can't see how you'd be able to use a waterproof casing on it, and I'd hate to ruin the camera as it's given me some great shots.

Thanks for posting your photos - if mine are really lousy I'll come back and look at yours after the trip is over!!

Cheers!
Moon

An underwater housing for the 2500? Try http://www.adorama.com/EWDNK1A.html or http://www.digideep.com/english/unterwater/photo/housing/10bar/Nikon-CP2500-3500/51/433.

I don't vouch for either as I have no experience of them but they are both made to fit you camera.

My biggest tip is to ensure you have an off button accessible. If not you have to have the LCD on all the time and the battery drains in a very short time. I found that out with my first housing for the coolpix. We all learn by our mistakes..

We had a cheap underwater camera and the results can be seen at http://www.angrypig.com/belize it was OK but a lot of photos didn't come out for some reason. Just a warning - it's an expensive hobby as I am finding out now.... smile

Hi Moon,

To answer your question about what you'll see snorkeling: PLENTY! The sting rays, the puffer and some of the coral pictures were taken on a snorkeling trip. Shark Ray Alley is not to be missed either. You'll see several nurse sharks, sting rays, parrot fish, jacks and snappers.

Enjoy your trip!

Sue

Moon,

We saw several sea turtles near where the conch fishermen harvest their catch.

You will be amazed at all the creatures you'll see!

Casa Caracol, thanks for the tip on the books! We received them from Amazon the other day and LOVE them. I will update the site this weekend with the proper names of fish, coral, sponges and creatures.
