PS.. I do agree that AC has gotten ridiculously expensive.. but part of that reason is that being older and more successful, I tend to stay and eat at the higher end places... if I were on a budget, I could get by very nicely on AC.. 10 bucks a night for pedro's inn, 20 bucks a day for food.. and another 20 a day for booze. laying on the beach is free.

I highly recommend a cab vs. walking in the dark with the people out at night. There have been situations in the past with women walking home at night, but overall SP is a very safe place.
