Good grief! Who knew going on vacation to an exotic island was going to be so painful? Just kidding! But after finding out I couldn't scuba after taking most of the class, and scheduling my open water certs in A/C, this is just another hiccup! There's always the beach and Belikins!

Oh, and cave tubing, zip lining, the ruins, the Zoo, fishing, and of course, snorkeling!

My husband and I are going to AC in July. We got tetnus and Hepatitis A vaccines, and prescriptions for anti-malaria drugs.

I might have missed one of your posts, why can't you scuba?

CaliBlueFrog - Why can't you scuba? Some of the scuba shops there would be glad to help you. Ask pedro2. Scuba on the reef is the great adventure.

I can't Scuba because I have Eustachian Tube Dysfunction! I know it sounds weird, but my ENT Dr., said that there are no surgeries for it, and I have always had problems equalizing my ears after getting off of planes. No "popping" my ears after flying, or leaving high elevations. Bummer, huh? It's okay though, because we will be able to snorkel, and do all the other awesome things in A/C.

To add one more thing, I was told that I could "train" my tubes with antihistamines, or allergy medicines, and they may work, but I don't think I want to jeopardize my hearing to scuba after 47 years of life. There are many things to appreciate in A/C, and I think I will enjoy all of those things when visiting A/C in May.

People are so paranoid when it comes to shots. If you are going to Belize on a regular, normal vacation, you do not need shots... no matter where you are going... cayes or inland. Period. If, however, you are going to the interior for MONTHS then you need them. You would be amazed at how ignorant many doctors are in the U.S. when it comes to this.

Hi CaliBlueFrog..my husband has similar problems, his from too many contact sports and busted noses when younger and from allergies. That "training" idea does not sound like a good idea. Don't worry...you will find tons to do in Belize. Enjoy!

Thanks Denny for the info, but I think we would both rather be safe than sorry. We are also going to Ixtapa in June, so with that much traveling, it never hurts to be prepared.
Thanks also seachange, I agree that I want to keep my hearing for as long as I can. Too many other body parts are falling apart as I get older! And if I have to pop one more pill for something, I want it to be for something FUN, not health related! (laughing!)
