Ambergrishog, Why would you want to forget the Travelers checques? They are as easy as cash and have some protection if lost and unlike credit cards they don't come with the occasional usage fee. I cash them at the money exchange store and get the going price (usually a little above the 2 for 1 rate). And my bank, like most these days, do not charge me for them.

You can use a credit card to pay the departure tax. At least you could in June.

I have been to S.P. about 15 times and always take a flash light or two, the hydro goes out regularly, and I also take a clothes line and pegs, get them at a dollar store, you can hang in the room or balcony, great for wet suits, towels or to rinse out stuff, it will dry overnight, (room fan or air) ziplock bags are always good, I use them down there for everything, enjoy your trip.

Mountain Larry, money exchange stores are long gone. Banks charge a fee for exchanging your US $, so you are better off now just using TChecks for your purchases at a 2 to 1 rate unless you know someone willing to puchase your $$ on the black market.

Are they allowing you to pay your departure tax with a credit card now? Is that new?
