OK spots - explain "mennonite cow"..... is this a slight against our fairer sex, or a bovine animadversion???

I believe spots refers to couws raised by the Mennonites. Personally, I don't think it has to do with who raised them, it gotta be environment or aging or something like that because I've never had decent tasting beef in Belize - people keep arguing they have USDA quality, but it does not taste the same. Never tried a hamburger.

On the right track, law. The taste of any dead creature is primarily relative to it's diet and somewhat it's environment. Most of that great beef you get in the US is predominately a corn fed diet with some grasses. How many cornfields have you seen in BZ?

Try one of Tim's, you'll be quite pleasantly surprised. Not as much as you were with P1's pizza, however. wink

The beef here is good. You just have to know what cuts to get and how to marinate it or dress it. I buy tenderloin all the time...cant go wrong with that and as for burgers here I have yet to find a "funny" taste. Perhaps it is in how the burger is being cooked or has it sat around in the fridge for too long or not? I would be worried about the "or not" part.

Cornfed beef is fat...that is what gives it that lovely taste and as your arteries are clogging up and you are getting ready for that next bypass? All of your good angus cattle are grass raised just like here then they are shipped off to a feedlot and for those of you who have never been near one I shall save the olfactory description. Feedlots are an abomination.

As to USDA quality? There are not enough inspectors in the United States to ensure that processed meats are safe which is why I never buy "hamburger" from a big box store. I go to a butcher, get a good steak cut, grind it up, add some pork fat and voila! Best damned burger and I won't die from E-coli.

JMHO....beef....I love it. The beef here is decent.

About the beef. AS I understand it, but correct me if I'm wrong, the flavor of the beef will be directly influenced by what ever the cow is being fed. I think that corn fed beef will taste different than grazed beef. I have no clue as to what the Belize cows eat, but would bet that it isn't corn. And, it isn't full of the antibiotics that our US cows are fed. So, it will taste different. Not bad, just different than what we are used to here. I have eaten burgers there, and they are OK. Different than what we get here in the states, but still pretty good.
