Hi, I like to take my vacations real slow. I'm figuring I'll drive to Belize, get centrally located in an Apartment, and from there drive and take in all the sights to be had, and live the life that I feel like living at that very moment. No pressure, no time-frames. Thats my idea of vacationing! My 1st qstion deals with central location - Where should I be? 2nd Question, what should I expect to pay for that central location, and will I be very far from everything? 3rd question - can you reccommend anybody for housing? Its me and my lady friend from MA, and FL - Thankyou very much, and email me directly if you like. COMJAB@AOL.com

You can drive a boat, but that is about it.

"Centrally located" in Belize would mean Belize City and environs, but not many visitors would want to get an apartment there, due to high prices and safety issues. You might want to look at a Belize map and see what options you have, such as San Ignacio, Hopkins and Belmopan.

It's nearly impossible to arrange an apartment or house rental before you come, except possibly on Ambergris Caye where there are condos and other rentals catering to tourists. Best to do that in person after you arrive -- you'll save money and headaches by seeing what you are getting into before you pay money.

Hi-

All the sights usually entails everything. Jungle, and whatever else sweetjane had listed. Also, I understand that to get to San Pedro that means either a boat or plane.

Lan, I appreciate your response. I guess what I really need to know is what town should I be looking at for safe, and good reasonably priced lodging, that is centrally located. Also, I need a supermarket closeby :-) Thanks ahead of time, Gianni

Your best choice for safe, reasonably priced housing is probably Corozal Town and environs in Northern Belize. However, it is near the northern border of Belize and is only central in the sense that you can visit part of Mexico easily as well as northern Belize.

Aside from Belize City, the most centrally located town would be Belmopan which, though the capital, has only about 8,000 people. It has reasonably safe housing, though in most cases not as inexpensive as Corozal.

You could also look at San Ignacio, which is a pleasant small town with a population of about 14,000. Since it's near the Guatemala border, it's not exactly centrally located, but as Belize is a small country most places are within a few hours' drive.

There are groceries in all these towns, but the only *supermarkets* are in Belize City.

I don't know about driving. I think the way to travel is by bus. Go in off season. You will find plenty of good places. We took a Month and it wasn't long enough. Stay at Caye Caulker for a few days. It is very inexpensive $35.00 night US for 2. I live in California but spend a few weeks in Belize each year. If I can be of help e-mail is billritemanagement@msn.com
