I'm planning a two-week trip to Belize for this fall (September) and am wondering when is the best time to find inexpensive flights.
I've searched recently and flights from Chicago to Belize City are running upwards of $1000 round-trip. My guess is I should wait until closer to my travel dates to book, but could I be incorrect in assuming that rates will go down as time passes??

MGblue: Don't know about airfare this fall but we're flying out of O'Hare on April 14 and our RT to AC (total air package O'Hare to Houston to Ladyville to AC) is $567 per. We booked with Continental and it is one of their "package deals" but we thought it was pretty good. We booked in January so about 90 days ahead of time. I'd shop around. Think you can do better.

In Feb the flight prices were running about $419.00 round trip out of Miami to Belize.
Now they are running about $670.00 on Travelocity and over a 1000 on Orbitz.
Price always go up around the Easter holidays because lots of Belizeans go home for Easter. Prices then drop back down in April and May and then usually go back up a little for summer travel.
But I have never seen prices this high on travel to Belize. Its terrible.

travel agents will admit that you can usually get cheaper airfare going directly to each airline's website (continental or american airlines)fares are usually lower monday thru thursday...fewer travelers on those days i guess...

i bought my tickets for this summer a couple of weeks ago. i purchased then because the availability of seats was going down. the day i had originally planned to leave had been completely booked since i checked a few weeks earlier! i am paying $577 RT thru houston on continental.

i have an excellent ticket consolidator/travel agent who seems to specialize in central american countries. she's in sf--ana adams at imperial travel 415.826.8100. the price she quoted me this year was $570...about $40 more than i paid last year. however, last year i contacted continental after i made my reservation with ana and a seat on the exact same flight booked thru continental reservations was going for about $250 more! i wish i had the guts of steel to try for last minute cheap seats, maybe that works for people, but i have a need to have certain aspects of my trip assured in advance. i am not sure if ana can hook folks all over the country up with deals but it doesn't hurt to try her if you are planning for an extended summer trip this year and finding the prices steep...

Try flycheapol.com (1-800-921-2FLY) and ask for Monica. Cleveland to Belize $590.00 the middle of August. Continental Airlines.

We called Continental direct and got a RT airfare in mid-June from Seattle for about $625 each. That's about on par with what we paid last year at same time of year.

Hi, my friends and I are all taking different flights, but we booked directly with Continental from NYC, and are paying $456.00 each. We leave this coming weekend.
