Hi there all,

My husband & I will be heading to AC the last week of May. REALLY looking forward. I'm wondering about kayaking out to the reef. We are avid kayaks (done the Baja/Sea of Cortez things a number of times) and we have this...think we call it a DIVYAK...anyway it's a really rugged blow up job. We'd like to bring it...paddling up & down the shoreline is a great way to work off the rum...but more important, is it reasonable to take our kayak out to the reef or beyond ? I know there can be signifigant currents out there. Are we maybe better off getting a local to drop us somewhere? I've been reading the field guides but I could just use some real-life advice on whether we should drag our boat along with us...or not.

I have acouple of Searns inflatables but I don't use them anymore because the wind and wave effects them badly. My advice would be rent kayaks from any number of businesses. I do know that the business behind the Holiday Hotel has Hobie kayaks as well as Caribe Island Resort...to the south of town. Kayaking to the reef is doable...although past the reef would be abit ruff. Besides, most everything to see IS inside the reef. Good luck!! Also check around for kayak rentals for the lagoon behind San Pedro. I live back there, and the scenery and birdlife is great.

Kayaking to the reef is great, done it many many times. Have fun, and be careful and do not touch any of the new growth out there. Some beautiful elf horn, staghorn and lots of different sea fans and othe corals such as brain. There are some curious'cudas out there, they like to investigate snorklers, but dont worry, ive spent hours out there with them lil fellas behind me, they wont eat ya.....but if your eyes can catch it, you may see them eat lunch

We were both wondering about the lagoon too. Lots of the kayaking we do at home is in mountain lakes...much more than just the water life. So the lagoon is worth doing then ? It's probably good to do then on a windy day (as opposed to the reef)?
