KathyA - As soon as I get home I will write more about Roatan and my "combination" trip. Right now there is a swimming pool at Victoria House calling my name... laugh

Welcome home, Isle. I cannot wait to hear about your Roatan adventures, and your week at VH. You learned new things? Wanna hear! Are they about Pedro? :p

Thanks db - the Roatan part of the trip was better than I had imagined. Still trying to sort out house stuff and getting re-adjusted to real life. Come into chat this evening and I will tell you all about Roatan. That way no one will yap at me if you know what I mean.

KathyA - are you aware of the chat room? The url is http://groups.msn.com/BelizeVacations/chat. If you don't want to come in there I will be happy to e-mail all about Roatan. E-mail me at Islenutt@yahoo.com

Roatan was fun, fun, fun! Luna Beach where we stayed was awesome, great place and people! Similar to AC in that everyone we met was great. A little less developed than AC but its a much bigger island so stuff is more spread out, its more like a tropical caribbean island with high hills, rainforests and such. Great snorkeling right off shore. No golf carts though... but then that means I didn't fall off one this year!

Bars are more like the Palapa in that they are laid back beach bars, nothing like the Barefoot Iguana that we saw in West End anyway (good.. cause a repeat of foam night would be dangerous!! Foam bad!). Made Jell-o shots again for our Pirate party, luckily we made them when I was sober this time so didn't put the 151 in them by mistake again!

We saw RiverShark and Gene who we had met in Belize last year. They were staying mostly at the other end of the island though at an isolated dive resort.

Our wild little Parrothead group loved Roatan just as we loved AC.. hope to return to both soon. I like the way Jan did the hop from Roatan to Belize, just wish I had enough vaca time to have done the same! Maybe next time....

The Roatan websites and message boards have nothing on the AC ones though. Their message board pretty much sucks. They need to take a lesson from the AC one on that end! Plus it doesn't have the 'characters' that this one has (aka Pedro), which makes it a dull place to go.

I agree with everything Andrea said. We had a blast in Roatan and some of us are already trying to plan the next trip!
One thing she left out... swings in bars can be dangerous! I had the bruises to prove it!

Jan, Honduras sounds wonderful. Did you fly Taca?

I flew Taca from SFO. It leaves at 1:30 am, short layover in San Salvador then right to Roatan. I was at Luna Beach Resort unpacking by 11:00 a.m.
I would recommend Taca highly. Flights were on time and service could not have been better. I even had all my luggage when I arrived!
It was a fairly easy trip up to Belize. Roatan to San Pedro Sula on an afternoon puddle jumper very similar to Tropic or Maya, overnight at Microtel - safe, comfortable hotel about 10 minutes from the airport. 6:40 am flight to BZE. I had no issues with it, unfortunately my travel companion was a bit uncomfortable. It was her first time in Central America and she was a bit intimidated. I suppose the armed guard that came to take our bags down could have been the kicker for her... laugh
It was a great combination trip. Party with the Parrotheads in Roatan and recover in AC!
