We are planning a week on Ambergris Caye, but will be staying over one night in the Belize area after flying in to International. Also one night before flying out of Belize. Have not been able to find any site listing budget or economy places to stay while in Belize City. Any help would be appreciated.

Villa Boscardi comes highly recommended.

Colton House runs about $60/nt. Biltmore is not much more. Hotel Mopan is much less and I have heard good things about it but I have not seen it myself. I would say beware of budget in BZ City!!!

dito to budget hotel or motel stay out belize city if on a budget .. best western biltmore ,clean ,safe away from town ten to fiveteen min from air port,very nice new pool ,teak deck , bar ,very good food in a small resturantat vey good prices , great breakfest, lunch buffet ,cable tv and you must shop prices on internet or call direct !!!!been there ten times good bet if in your range ??last year was $75 us a night ???? a fair price plus great fenced grounds ,lots of 24 hr security. enjoy

Colton House gets my vote too. Nothing wrong with Jeff's choice either. Just prefer that laid back homey atmosphere of Colton to institutional hotels. Great people as well.

Do you really NEED to stay in Belize City? Flights to and from Ambergris Caye are scheduled to connect with arriving and departing international flights. You could have 2 more nights in San Pedro...

I often stay in Belize City (which grows on you if you give it a chance), My recommendations in the moderate and budget range would be:

Colton House
Coningby Inn
Grant Residence
Biltmore Plaza (if you need a true motel)

Budget:
Downtown Guest House
Hotel Mopan (though it's getting more expensive)

Thanks for all the good suggestions. Problem is, I haven't seen any of these places listed when I do a search for lodging in Belize. Can you give me any good websites showing these places. I had originally heard you could find cheaper places to stay in Belize than AC. Haven't seen any in the price range of places like Ruby's, Martha's, or Hotel del Rio over in AC. How have you found these places to be? Anyone?

Try Diamond Motel. About 4 miles from Belize City on the Northern Highway. I've stayed there several times. The price is right, A newer building and clean..Telephone 501-2-34810. It was easy to catch a cab ride into town..
