I would consider Journey's End Resort. www.journeysendresort.com. My favourite. Fits your needs. Stayed there twice. North of town about two miles. Lots of amenities plus great restaurant-Luna. Great staff.

I agree with Fluffy on Exotic Caye. Stayed there 4 times and found it to be an ideal location. Far enough from town for some peace & quiet yet close enough to town to walk with ease. Plenty of action close by when you want it.

I recommend doing your own research right here on this site to help you make up your mind.

Anyone familiar with Banana Beach Hotel? Where do you rent golf carts?

Banana Beach offers Cholo's golf carts right at the hotel. In fact most hotels will arrange for a quality golf cart to be waiting for you when you arrive.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Too many choices. All the hotels look good. One more question. Since this is our first trip to Belize should we stay a few days in Belize City and do a few tours before heading to Ambergris Caye? Are there tours we should see before leaving Belize City that aren't included in the day tours offered from AC?

Actually, you will find that the trips offered on the caye are the same as those offered on the mainland. The only people that really stay in Belize City are those folks going someplace else in the interior. You'll find everything you need right on ambergris.
