Hey Bill-
Bone to pick? Read carefully - I didn't call him a racist - said he looked like one. That comment referred to the derogatory term he used on numerous ocassions to refer to those of another race. He finally admitted on the stand he had used the term more than once, after he had already perjured himself. I'm certainly not the first person to have noted the obvious. As for needing to attach labels to others in order to feel superior - I've been around long enough and seen enough in so many others to know I am most definately not.
Now if ya just want to argue for the sake of argument . . . well, pick your topic wink

Here in the states my nephew was murdered. In a small town of 2000 people (he was 26 years old). I brought him there ( a small town)to help him after his mother died at 40 years old. He was shot 12 times the last one point blank. I was a community service worker, served on the city council for 4 years. Public safety committee and all. The stupid jury was hung as the defense (big money lawyer)painted the unarmed victim as the criminal. They pleaded the case and pending sentencing the criminal was let out on bail. I no longer live in that town. The best friend of the murder victim does. He was an eye witness and is now threatened on a regular basis. Since the legal system did not work they now think they are above the law. The police drink beer with the criminals involved in the crime. Yes my nephews house was robbed also. They took his 56 inch big screen TV. No one seen anything and he lived right on the highway. The plea bargain got him only 15 years in jail. He is now making rap music about killing him. I say protect your way of life my life was taken from me and now I just dream of Belize on a regular basis. I visited San Pedro and I found some of the people hustling me on the beach a little offensive. If you don't keep the crime down the people will not visit and tourist is what keeps Belize above water. All I know is that people that think it does not happen in the US are living a fantasy. They think police are not corrupt WAKE UP. It was a nightmare for me but my eyes are wide open now.

klc - no "bobbleding" here - "looked like" as in appeared to be - physical appearance not the issue.
Dictionary.com defines racist as:

adj 1: based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks" 2: discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion [syn: antiblack, anti-Semitic, anti-Semite(a)] n : a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others [syn: racialist]

Based on the words from Furman's own mouth would you argue his conduct doesn't fall under this definition?

Following the Simpson trial jurors candidly admitted that Furman's testimony impacted their verdict. The jury found him lacking in credibility because he deliberately testified falsely under oath about his prior use of a derogatory term in reference to another race. They also believed this demonstrated attitude toward African Americans called into question the motives behind his investigation tactics and his testimony.

- how do you define racist?
woooooosh right back at ya . . .

Someone can give the "appearance" of a certain character trait, without actually having a physical characteristic that suggests the same. So you've got me a bit confused klc, as to where you were trying to go with that. But no matter.

Scubaldy, I agree with some of what you've said and some of what you perceive. I recall many times that I've found myself trying to explain to locals that many of the tourists they see, have worked long and hard to afford the vacation they are on. I've tried to express that for the most part, they don't necessarily behave the same way at home as they may do while on vacation. I've tried to explain, that it can be particularly true for those people on vacation from more northerly (colder) states and countries. I'm sure the whole concept, is most confusing to those that work 12-18 hour days, 6 days a week, with no hope of a vacation. One of my friends down there, often works every day, 12+ hours a day for a month or two at a time before he gets a break. Oddly enough, he's one person that seems to understand. Mayhap that's because he does get to realize a vacation once in a blue moon.
