You are all wrong...Emily is quite clearly a Belizean LoveMuffin.
We do not have a dog friend at the moment, but in the past have had Shelties, both purebred and rescue....champion barkers all.
Hugs to Emily.

Maybe a "Belizean LoveMuffin" - whatever that is - but clearly has some Basenji in her.

Now that I am on this dog roll (and I don't even own one, just 2 cats), I would be curious to know what else Emily is. Hard to tell without an exam. I like the mix name: Basenji and bitza!

Yes she is a love muffin. Emily was abandoned during the threat of the hurricane. Left to roam the streets of SP. Food thrown on a patio & no water. We did not evacuate. We took her in for four days. She slept with us as she still does. We fell in love with her. We figured if who ever had her could have taken her to the shelter. They couldn't have been very concern about her. We just could not leave her behind. She'd would have been road kill the way those golf carts speed through there.

Wonderful pictures! Quilt looks like ours, but Mo is a lab/chow mix, who really enjoys the posturpedic. Local pound, parvo a few days after we got her at 6 weeks, but pulled her thru and she's now 11 and going strong. Next one, however, will likely be a potlicker!

Beagle knocked up by a Basenji. Three in the litter. Hard to housetrain if it's a dog, easy if it's a bitch.

They come into heat early so protect her. Whelping early can harm her physically forever. Face-licking fiend, I imagine.

Find a way to give her salt. A pepper-grinder with sea salt (dogs do not need iodine) - very little salt, but if you don't she'll lick your face (FEET!!) to the point of annoyance, and I adore dogs.

Emily has been spayed. And yes she has been hard to train. But that's because, my husband thinks it's cruel to crate her or even lock her up at night in the 8 x 10 bathroom. When I go out I put her in there and she's fine, with no accidents. She does bark some but not often. She does lick us to death. She even gives hugs, wraps her head & neck around our neck. But that's OK with us.

This looks like one of the high class pot lickers. I urge you to kennel train your dog. If you will do some research I think you will discover that most professional dog people will tell you that you will have healthier happier dog if you do this.
I too have a rescued pot licker. He was brought to me August 8, 2004. He had been beaten and starved and shook uncontrollably for three days. For the first month every time I lift my right arm he flinched.
This was the first night I was staying in my new condo and we have lived happily ever after. I borrowed a cage and put him in it the first night. He slept all night without crying. Long story short - I now have two rescued dogs. Pepe is the alpha dog and Grita is the bar bitch. Pepe is very protective of me and Grita will go with anybody, anytime anyplace. Pepe is too aggressive for condo life and Grita is a sweetheart.
They love their kennels. When they are brought in at lunch time all I have to say is "Let's take a nap" and they go to their respective kennels. Pepe nudges me sometime after 8:00 and I have to 'take' him to bed. I have to walk in watch him enter and close the door. Grita is close behind.
I know when Pepe has been really bad and been scolded by someone as he will come to the door, look remorseful and go into his kennel and sleep. I've been told they love their kennels and feel safe there.
Good luck with your darling. Oh and remember her heritage and be sure and let her (at least occasionally) lick a pot. It is good for their coat.
