If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted, and tree surgeons debarked?
If you must choose between two evils, pick the one you've never tried before.

You've convinced me. It's my husband that needs to be convinced. He thinks it's cruel. He'd rather complain about the pee smelly carpet. He also doesn't clean the carpet. Emily will go in her crate on her own during the day. It's my husband that needs the training.

She licks the pot more than on an occassion. She even licks the plates so clean I just put them back in the cubboard. (NOT REALLY) LOL
Laurie: Emily does bark but, not often. She barks in a Belizean accent when frighten.

It is highly unlikely that little Emily is even slightly related to a Basenji. I was just pointing out that the 'pariah' (potlickers) dogs in Belize have a similar type to others in the world. The Basenji yodels or sings rather than barks. There are one or two other barkless dogs that we know (such as the Papua New Guinea Singing Dog) of and they are usually related to very old cultures. It is thought that this lack of bark may have been highly valued by hunters keen not to have the dogs give the game away during pursuit. Cross breeds even of the first generation often do not look anything like their pure bred parents so it can be virtually impossible to guess a cross bred dog's parentage. This is why when you go to a shelter - never believe them when they tell you what they 'guess' the dog's parentage is. No one will ever know (unless they were witness when the deed was done), but at least with a crossbreed you know that your dog will be unique. As for debarking, it is not allowed in the UK, so the only barkless dogs we see are Basenjis.

ArtZ, that is terrible about your hubby and his 'crate-thoughts'. Alas my hubby too erroneously believes it to be cruel to crate a dog. Silly men, they should be crated. Tee heeh.. I was so proud of my most recent rescue. After 8 years of hard time he was potty trained in 5 weeks with only 3 peepee accidents in the house. And friend, this guy is NOT the smartest in the bunch, but he is the favorite!

I to bought home a dog from S.P. Willy looks to be a cross between a black lab and a dalmation, but when my son is asked what type of dog he is ,he says he is a rare Belize Island dog, Drew loves the reaction he gets, he then tells them he is a mutt, Willy does'nt bark much, I thought it was just he Island layed back style. He is a great pet.
