I have lived in Belize for 22yrs. Now spend about 9 mo. of the year there. I agree with all of the above suggestions, but also think it is wise not to burn all of your bridges in the States before you decide on a full time residence. There are many opportunities to donate time. Saga,Library, mentoring or tutoring students, art groups, bridge to name a few. Take a year to see if this is the right place for you. Too much "Paradise" is not always a good thing if you don't have something meaningful to do with your life. Think you are on the right track by addressing this before making the change. If you do not need to work you can take you time and scope out the possibilities. Do you have hobbies?

Oh, was chicken lady and still do guest appearances. Gotta have patience when working with government (as everywhere). Once you are permanent resident, rest is fun! Turn your hobby into your vocation, worked for me! The island is growing so much and more is needed. After one month here, you'll know if you fit in (or it fits you!).

Deacon, I mentioned " or start up your own business " since there are a lot of things that San Pedro still needs. However, that is not part time. To get the business set up and running, they'll be working 24/7.

CaptJ, I am actually semi-retired. Take care of my vacation rental, my zoo, and the occassional website work. Hubby peddles dirt (sells real estate)
